...we'd made it to the (almost totally empty) parking lot. We'd made such good time on the way down that we had plenty of time to set up my camera to try to catch shots of us jumping in the air using the auto-timer. Haha.
On the walk back through the park, we stopped to watch a gentleman who was making a big show of getting crazy with the pigeons. Leigh thinks pigeons are terrible filth-birds and couldn't even watch what he was doing. Hahaha.
If you've got to talk to strangers and ask them to do weird things, you want Catrinel on your team! Not even a block later, jazz hands with a stranger! 10 POINTS!
This is a picture of the birthday cake that Pauline (Grant's mom!) was given by her friends. She owns a salon and offeres bikini waxes (along with many other services) but her friends decided to make her a birthday cake about waxing! Hahaha. UNBELIEVABLE!
Around 3am, we ran out of firewood and someone got the bright idea to round up a bunch of Christmas trees that were left by the side of the road and bring them down to the beach! MORE FIRE!
While we waited for the horse to arrive at the hotel (he was being transported down to Manhattan from upstate via trailer), Klaus (the manager of the hotel at the time) took us up to the roof so we could see the totally surreal view from the glass-edged roof deck. Breathtaking!
For most of the week, we'd been surfing a small beach-break right out front of the camp. On Tuesday morning, we woke up early to travel to a bigger break. I remember taking this photo so clearly. The windows were down, we were on a dirt road, the stereo was cranked playing The Ocean by Led Zep, the morning sun had just broken over the mountaintops.
