A wonderfully pine-crackling way to welcome the new year!
best
Around 3am, we ran out of firewood and someone got the bright idea to round up a bunch of Christmas trees that were left by the side of the road and bring them down to the beach! MORE FIRE!

best
...one of my favorite shots!
best
While we waited for the horse to arrive at the hotel (he was being transported down to Manhattan from upstate via trailer), Klaus (the manager of the hotel at the time) took us up to the roof so we could see the totally surreal view from the glass-edged roof deck. Breathtaking!

Meredith's last day of surfing!
best
For most of the week, we'd been surfing a small beach-break right out front of the camp. On Tuesday morning, we woke up early to travel to a bigger break. I remember taking this photo so clearly. The windows were down, we were on a dirt road, the stereo was cranked playing The Ocean by Led Zep, the morning sun had just broken over the mountaintops.
best
We made it back to the house in time to catch high tide. Meredith posing with her board. (Holy moly).
best
On Tuesday morning, we took a day off from surfing (to rest our sore bodies and bruised bellies!) and took a ride into the nearby city of Leon for the day.
best
During low tide, we decided to explore the beach in the other direction.
best

Her snout was covered in fish gore and she was grunting with delight.

We saw the birds were centered above a boat of fisherman that had just come ashore.
best
Parked right up on the beach.

The next day, I got to see Florida's panhandle coast in the sun for the very first time. It is one of the nicest beaches I've ever seen.
best
The first time I met Jason he was dressed up as Clark W. Griswold from Christmas Vacation. Squirrel on back = perfect.

...and here's Mark's real-life rendition. Hahaha. SOOOO GOOD!
best
Although, my favorite costume of the day by far was Leonzo dressing up as LENNY KRAVITZ! Hahahaha. Oh man, so great.

...we quietly took this photo and let him wake up on his own pretending we hadn't noticed. About 20 minutes later, we emailed him this picture. Hahahaha.
best
When I came back from lunch on Tuesday afternoon, Mark was busy coding and hadn't noticed that Patrick had slowly slumped down in his chair and fallen asleep; the victim of a post-lunch food coma. Rather than wake him up...
best
Who wants an ice cream sandwich? (This photo makes me scream with laughter every single time I look at it)
best
Not enough hours later, I had to be at work the next day! I arrived to our team's office to find that Patrick had drawn awesome caricatures of us. Haha.

Pretty wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning.
best
I love this photo. (Also, as a side note, on different days I notice that I unconsciously purchase grocery items of the same color. Apparently this day was a "red and orange" day.)

cutchogue weekend
September 10, 2010
best
I came downstairs just in time to catch Clayton making it clap for Cynthia.
best
While I was sitting there, two guys showed up with upright basses and started playing together. They were both using bows and making haunting, mournful, beautiful sounds and a man wandered over holding his newborn son and was holding him up into the sound. All while reading a book about learning to let go and get lost in life moment to moment. Call it the reason I live here.
best
Hahaha.

I love this photo so much.

The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind I had my tiny mind split open by this book. It ignited an interest in consciousness that still hasn't abided two years (and many more books) later.
