The morning after my big 31st birthday celebration, I awoke bright and early (and with crazy-man hair).
me
The night was really funny. The girls also LOVED Meredith's big blue eyes and kept telling her that they didn't usually "go with" other ladies but that if she was interested in one of them "that was ok." Hahaha. We ended up getting really drunk and hanging out with the girls and answering a lot of questions about life in New York City.
me
Me with my crown of flowers that was given to me when the girls found out we were out celebrating my birthday!
me
Yay! Best birthday ever!
me
Meredith woke me up at 6pm to give me my birthday present: A yellow "King Shirt!" The Thai absolutely LOVE their monarch. Seriously, it's hard to explain unless you go there and see it in person. Anyway, each day of the week has a color associated with it. Monday's color is yellow and since the king was born on a Monday, yellow is the king's color. And every Monday, pretty much everyone in Thailand wears yellow to honor the king!
me
After four hours of walking around, we'd only managed to see a little more than half the exhibits, but we were getting hungry and were starting to feel "museum-ed out." So I busted out my guidebook to see what vegetarian restaurants were nearby.
me
After breakfast, we drank some coffee and read books and relaxed and later that afternoon...
me
...that it was now August 8th and we were officially two hours into my 31st birthday! Thirty-one? Holy shit, I'm old!
me
The meal started out a little rocky. I ordered something on the menu called "Delicious Peanut Bread" and when it showed up it was two slices of stale white bread cut in half and a plate of peanut sauce to dip the bread in. Booooooooo!
me
After visiting the Wat, we stopped by a nearby travel agency and booked a trip to Khao Sok National Park, the largest protected forest in Thailand! Meredith took a bunch of pictures of me at the ATM...
me
Here we are showing off our brand new Thai sunglasses that we purchased with our Red Bulls for a whopping grand total of $5!
me
Except that this time it wasn't Thai New Years so there weren't mobs of people crowding the streets and throwing buckets of water on us.
me
Sooooo excited!
me
Here's us with Faisal's friend Vadim saying goodbye just before getting into our taxi to the airport! Thanks a million for having us, Faisal! We had THE BEST time!
me
...and some fruity, tropical drinks. Hahaha.
me
Afterwards, I returned the cultural favor by showing Faisal how you can transform a plain old t-shirt into a motherfucking NINJA MASK! Hahaha.
me
And then I set my camera all the way across the tent and used the timer to take this awesome Hustler Magazine inspired photo that I call "The West's Corruption of the East."
me
...a giant air conditioned (and carpeted!) tent. We went inside and Meredith took a bunch of photos of the two of us acting like we're working out some Old Testament business deals. Hahaha.
me
Hahaha. Desert coldlamp pose #403 (We stole this shit straight from the Magi).
me
But also so that Meredith could take awesome photos of Faisal and I together looking like middle-eastern bad-asses.
me
...Faisal decking me out! I had always figured the clothing had some sort of religious significance, but it turns out that it's just the traditional dress of the region and wearing it to work is pretty much akin to dressing up in a suit in the west.
me
Hahahaha!
me
...and then took Faisal's car (which he was kind enough to lend us) out so that we could explore Abu Dhabi on our own!
me
Me being a dork.
me
Faisal and me!
me
...put on funny ethnic hats and called it a night! Yay, Ethnic Hats!
me
Check out the "windshield!" It was made up of three screens that wrapped around and fill your entire field of vision!
me
Driving the thing was so realistic it was sort of terrifying. Hahaha. (Philip totally schooled my ass, btw).
me
The girls weren't interested, but Philip and I were SO DOWN. Here we are getting ready to race!
me
When I got off the ride, both my eyes were completely bloodshot! The force of being whipped around and hanged upside-down for extended periods of time totally exploded a bunch of tiny capillaries in my eyes. Now that's what I call getting your "two tickets worth!" (Coney Island, I'm looking in your direction with disappointment).
me
Here's a group shot of the four of us doing our best to pretend that we're not freezing our fucking asses off! (We all laughed at the winter hats that were for sale because we figured "How cold can it really be in there?" Surprise, surprise! Turns out, if you want to keep snow in the desert from melting, you need a room that's really fucking cold.

After we'd finished skiing indoors, I didn't think that the mall would have any other tricks up its sleeve that would impress me...but that was only because I didn't know that the Mall of the Emirates is also home to...
me
Me, still not totally able to believe that I'm about to go skiing, indoors, in the middle of a desert.
me
Here's a close up! Hahaha. What's funnier than Faisal feigned shock?
me
VICTORY IS OURS! Faisal was nice enough to take this photo of the four of us together, so I returned the favor by taking a photo...
me
Me alone in front of the hotel. Hahaha. Right after we took all these photos, Biba yet again raised the stakes and was like "Let's all strip down and go SWIMMING!" I was like "Uh, isn't that a bad idea? First of all, we're drunk in a country that frowns upon drinking, second of all, we're trespassing on a five-star hotel's private beach, and third of all, that sign right there clearly says 'No Swimming,' as if all that weren't bad enough, you want us to strip down in a country that totally frowns upon any type of public nudity?" Then we all started hysterically cackling and throwing off our clothes and running into the water.
me
After lazing around and digesting for a while, we finally got motivated to get up and get going. On the way out, someone was nice enough to take a pic of all of us together.
me
Philip and me snuggling up on the other side of the table.
me
Here's me giving one of them a real good ear scratchin.
me
Bernadette picked up my cam and shot this photo of us. "Look! We're finally relaxed and able to enjoy vacation!"
me
Right around midnight, exactly FIVE HOURS AFTER WE LANDED, Bernadette arrived at the airport and somehow managed to talk her way through security despite not having a passport or any airplane tickets with her! She spotted us (all greasy and grimy and dejected) and came over and said hi! Then I took this picture! After years of being friends online, this was the first time we'd met in person!

We sat down and told her the whole story and she told us not to worry because, "Mahmoun is on his way." I was like "It's midnight! Who's Mahmoun and what's he going to do?" Bernadette explained that he was a man who worked for her boss and that he was a "problem fixer." (Just like Mr. Wolf!!!)

Sure enough, about ten minutes later a very large, serious-looking Emirati man walked up to the armed guards at immigration and with a nod, they let the dude through! We were like "Whoa." Mahmoun came over to us, and asked us to tell him the problem (and he even whipped out a little pad to take notes just like Mr. Wolf!). After we'd finished explaining to him that we were almost 100% sure that the passport was still on the plane, he was like "Meredith you come with me. Bernatte and Brian, you wait here."

He came back like two minutes later with ten airline employees in tow and said something like "This airplane is supposed to fly back to New York in forty-five minutes, but it's not going anywhere until the passport that's on there is found. So let's go find it." Sure enough, just ten minutes later...
me
My eyes feel like tired!
me
And this one!
me
Brad was there taking photos and we hammed it up for him. 'Reserved' Sign + Crotch + Two Pretty Ladies Pointing at Crotch + David Brent Face = Comedy GOLD.
me
While I never imagined that I'd find myself in Dubai, I certainly never imagined that I'd find myself at a water park in Dubai! Thanks for taking us, Beebs!
me
Hahaha.
me
Hahaha.
me
...and goofy underwater photos.
me
We just relaxed in our tubes and floated all the way around the park.
me
I locked my camera up in a locker, but Bernadetta bought a disposable waterproof camera so we could still take pics! Ha! Here's me getting ready to try to stand up in the surfing simulator...I ate shit about 3 seconds after this photo was snapped.
me
Jenny Penny are you tan in this photo???
me
Ray-ray!
me
I stepped in with my triple threat masterpiece! The Wonky Eye / Slit Mouth / Neck-Wrinkle Combo! POW!
me
Thomas even came downstairs off the door to bounce that shit.
me
Around 3am, I went down into the basement and ran into Sheal...
me
Then on Saturday night, there was a party for Leigh's birthday at MisShapes. (I heard she knows the people that throw that party so they hooked it up for her).
me
But then instead of continuing to play their "hits," they spent the rest of the show playing shitty cover songs. Here's me and Kip reactive to Poison playing a Tom Petty song! WTF?
me
Sadie is really old and like most Whippets is sort of shy. So we spent most of Sunday on the couch getting to know each other. Look how reserved and shy she is! Hahaha.
me
"Our tummies feel like ouch."
me
Making new friends!
me
Gurjeet was there! I larvae her!
me
Hahaha.
me
Yay! Thanks for coming to NYC to visit, Emilie! Hope to see you again real soon! It's been way too long! Xoxo!
me
After the zoo, I rode home and took a nap. But then later on that night we all met back up...
me
FRIDAY THE 13TH!!! Emilie Elizabeth was in town visiting from LA so I went out to Barcade in Brooklyn to meet up with her!
me
Court however, manned up and we ended up staying out another couple of hours! Thumbs up!
me
Our teacher split our class into two "groups." We decided to call our group "The THORgasm Theorem." Clockwise from the left: Andrew, Jim, Thor, Hadley, Lauren, me and Tina!
me
...and Posh Tony!
me
...Vin...
me
YEEEEEEEEEEEES! We quickly rounded up some other wedding guests and took everyone to around the hotel to a nearly-empty out of the way parking lot.
me
Nudy party in the dark corner of the parking lot!
me
I reluctantly agreed to puppeteer along.
me
And I still don't believe that this guy really doesn't know who Derek Smalls is. Because I refuse to believe that I'm the first person to have mentioned his resemblance.
me
Me and Kent with our "cocktail hour" smiles.
me
T-minus: 5 minutes! Here's Jeff, Kent, John and me taking a break from seating guests for a quick photo.
me
Then me! Thanks for lending your slender lady-fingers, gorgeous! We would've been flowerless without you!
me
Meredith took this totally embarrassing photo of me because she says I sleep like a "naked synchronized swimmer" and after years of posting totally embarrassing photos of pretty much everyone I know, I figure it's only fair that I occasionally get a taste of my own medicine. (And, also because it presented me with an opportunity to create a new photo-tag called "man ass."). Happy June 2007!
me
Leigh was worried that she was smiling too much in photos lately so we decided to take a "coldstare" photo lest people start to think she's going soft. (Bonus points to Scott for his Colonel Mustard freestyle!)
me
We got our free drink on and took stupid pictures to celebrate being reunited after four long days apart. (I don't remember what the party was for...maybe is was something related to V Magazine?)
me
Me sharing some yucks with J Crowley, the birthday boy's little brother.
me
Brett, Amy and me.
me
Wakey, wakey, Gents! Looks like we've arrived at...
me
...but the flash woke him up and the picture of "just-waking-up" Tim proved to be much funnier than "taking-a-lil-nap" Tim.
me
Shotgun!
me
Jeff was snapping pics of me making face next to sleeping Tim...
me
Russ and me.
me
...and I gave the Silver Surfer a quick rimming.
me
Point at the ceiling for the big finish!
me
Now it's your turn, crowd!
me
GLORIA!
me
I love, love, love this photo. It looks like we're both taking huge, painful shits on the stage. Hahah.
me
Hahaha.
me
Big ups to Gurj who took my camera and used it to take some of the funniest pictures I've ever seen of me singing karaoke (which is quite an accomplishment when you think about how many photos there are of me singing karaoke).
me
I wasn't even planning on singing, but Chris put on Laura Brannigan's Gloria (which everyone knows is my favorite karaoke song) and he called me up on stage to tackle it duet-style.
me
Later that night, Meredith, Matt and I met up with Alex (who was in the same improv class as Matt & I) and we went to see the Sunday night Asscat show at the UCB Theater.
me
Three cheeseballs.
me
Later that night I met up with Rina for a drink (which I think was only the second time I'd ever seen her in a karaokeless environment!).
me
...Brandon and Sarah for some La Palapa Mexican brunch.
me
...and sexy little pony tails like this.
me
Any time Meredith gets a couple of drinks in here, she wants to dress me up like a girl. So I end up with bobby pins in my hair...
me
Me and Quinn!
