Later that evening I watched Mozart in the Jungle to find the scene they'd filmed on my block the back in September of 2014. It was a rainy, chilly morning... Headed out into the world. Digging the newly-painted purple footprints. ...and someone dunked their feet in purple paint and made footsteps that go between the two community gardens. (Adam Purple pretty much single-handedly created every garden in the Lower East Side by riding his bike up to the central park horse stables, collecting manure, and carting it back downtown to mix into the soil around all the empty lots where they'd torn buildings down. Over the years and through thousands of trips with manure, he turned all the empty lots into fertile topsoil where plants could grow! On Saturday morning I went over to La Plaza for Adam Purple's memorial. On the walk home I passed the La Plaza bulletin board and learned that Adam Purple had died. Dog walks and later summer skies. Lining up for the woodchipper! Came back to find the tree totally gone. Came downstairs to watch them trim it down piece by piece. The city contractors had come to remove one of the giant willow trees that had been damaged by salt water flooding during Hurricane Sandy. Lots of hub-bub in the hood bright and early on Monday morning! Murals on 12th st. ...and we walked over to the Grape & Grain.... Post-rain early evening view from my... Walked through a movie shoot on the way home. Cool tarot card stickers in my hood. Watched the fireworks from my living room window and felt old / sort of happy that I didn't want to go out and do anything Did you know that there are peach trees in Manhattan? I ate two delicious East Village peaches right off the tree! Art someone bolted to a street sign in my neighborhood. Nice neighborhood flyer to announce the passing of my neighbor Jerome. New piece of art hanging in the window on E 9th St. No one hurt just dented doors. ...of taxi impact. Got this excellent flyer handed to me by neighbors in my building advertising their awesome upcoming party! (I obviously went!) Was early so I could walk Maddy before aikido class. They closed the gas station on the corner of Houston & Ave C Love me a good econoline. Got drunk as a skunk and talked about life with these two lovelies. So sad. See ya later trees!
