fort tilden
showing 2011 only · show all yearsEmpty Jacob Riis Park....and started heading back. Really fun to have an empty, wide-open path where you can pedal around......with no hands!Stencil work.Another building closer to the parking lot.I love this kind of foliage near the water.Back outside, I decided to wander around more and check out some of the other abandoned buildings.Looks like a shooting gallery from an old arcade game.Elephant.Neat graffiti inside.Old barracks falling apart.Ladder up!Return to the surface. This slit was so that you could shoot a giant .50 caliber gun. Crazytown. The view from inside.Awesome.While I was looking out over the beach, a group of six Mustang P-51s flew by in formation.Climb on down!View of the beach from the pillbox roof....eventually, you'll find a pillbox bunker from when Fort Tilden was an active fort. There's a path that runs behind the beach. If you follow it for a bit...Not a single person in sight in either direction. It's really surreal to be on a beach as deserted as Fort Tilden sometimes is on a weekday. But this one's also pretty good. Haha. This one's my fave!Well, we're not exactly jumping in this photo, but I kind of like it.I put my camera on the window on auto timer and we tried to time a group jump shot. Attempt #1. FAIL.In the parking lot we noticed that the abandoned barracks had been cleaned and freshly painted!...time to head back!Back over the dunes...Double-fisting treats! <3Cynthia is a beach professional. Blankets, snacks, you name it.Perfect.
