the april roundup
Here are all the pics I took in April 2008 that didn't end up in an entry of their own!
Sunday, March 30th
Sunday was my first day back after my whirlwind, two-week solo-trip to Egypt!
I spent most of it on the couch with Mer watching movies (Trading Places!) and eating treats! It's good to be home.
Monday, March 31st
On Monday, March 31st I started my new job at Yodle as the Director of Product.
Yodle helps service-based local businesses get new clients by advertising online (think doctors, lawyers, locksmiths, landscapers). I've been there almost two years and the 60-person company I joined has expanded into five offices and almost 400 employees! Holy moly!
Tuesday, April 1st
On Tuesday morning, my new PADI certification diving card arrived in the mail!
And springtime arrived in New York City. Here's the first flowering buds on the trees in Stuyvesant Town while I was out running errands!
Thursday, April 3rd
On Thursday night I went Team Gallery for the opening of Ryan McGinley's latest show.
The show was called I Know Where The Summer Goes...
...and it featured photographs from the summer Ryan spent in a van driving around the country with a bunch of kids, getting naked, running all over beautiful landscapes and taking photos of them celebrating their youth. I loved 'em.
On the way in, I ran into Amy K, who I hadn't seen (and still haven't seen) in a million years!
And I also ran into this guy who recognized me from reading the site and came up and said hello! We laughed about the fact that this photo wouldn't actually be online for another TWO YEARS and how I would most likely forget his name by then. (Correct on both accounts!). Nice to meet you! Hope you see this and laugh!
The opening was totally mobbed. (But apparently Ryan's shows keep getting bigger and bigger. Exactly two years later, in March 2010, Ryan just had the opening for his new show at the same gallery and it was so crowded that they had to call the fire department. Check out this photo of the crowd filling the street outside the gallery! Insanity.)
On the way out, Amy, Jesse and I congratulated Ryan's nose on all his success!
After the show, I went and met up with Amanda and Scott and we had a tasty dinner (at L'asso?).
After dinner, this one joined us...
...and we went to see some show? Man, I have zero recollection of what it was.
Then at 2am I apparently got pizza again. Good thing I took photos so I'd remember all this, huh?
Sunday, April 6th
On Sunday afternoon I came home from running around to find Meredith sitting at the kitchen table wearing sunglasses indoors and filing glass cups with a DREMEL?
Turns out the special "glass-cutter" she'd order from the interweb had shown up...
...and Meredith was taking bottles she'd saved, cutting them in half, sanding their rough edges smooth and turning them into drinking glasses for our apartment. Hahahaha. LOVE.
Monday, April 14th
Mid-month: the Stuytown blossoms in full-effect.
Friday, April 18th
On Friday night I went over to my buddy Jared's house to get my pre-game on!
Jared used to be the lead singer of Group Sounds (a NYC band known best for getting naked on stage) and now he runs a jingle house in NYC that's BLOWING UP called Jingle Punks. Here's Jared playing one of his new tunes for the crowd.
"Wait, one minute please."
Right before we head out to hit the town, SEXY JOE showed up!
Hahaha. I love this photo.
We went to some party around the corner that was in a bar with a really great photo booth. Check out the kid on the right: Countdown to Wet WillY...in THREE....TWO....ONE...
....WET WILLY!
A little after midnight I bade farewell to Jared and Sexy Joe and their friends and went over to the Annex to see a couple bands play.
Ellen, Katie and Amanda were all there. (Amanda the fact that I can hear you say the phrase "Oooooh" whenever I look at this photo makes me LOL).
Later on that night, they had some kind of art show where they kept projecting huge illustrations of people on the wall. Then, a bunch of people we know started coming up. Like Leigh! Haha. They'd show a drawing of the person...
...then, a whole 'nother set of LASERS would sear the air and...
...project their name over the illustration.
Then it was Geordon!
GEORDON NICOL! Every time a name appeared I'd say it outloud in a MONSTER TRUCK ANNOUNCER VOICE! (Much to the horror of the people around me. Hey, what can I say - that's what happens when you show me art at a bar at midnight on a Friday).
THOMAS ORONATOOOOOOOOO!
Saturday, April 19th
On Saturday night, Meredith and I (and our 80 year-old neighbor Mama Zandi!) went up to Meredith's parents house for Passover Dinner.
Sunday, April 20th
On Sunday squirrels claimed trees. That is all.
Monday, April 21st
On Monday afternoon I ducked out of work for a bit to meet up with Laure! Laure and I met in the summer of 2003 when Grant and I were on assignment for Nerve.com trying to Use Pickup Lines at the Ford Model Party. Hahaha. She was in town from Paris working on a movie and we got together and caught up!
Late late late on Tuesday night I went to Home Sweet Home...
....because Sarah and Karen were DJing (some afterparty?).
Hahaha.
I love this photo. Instant party.
Hahaha.
We closed it out.
Thursday, April 24th
On Thursday night I went to a Korean restaurant in Brooklyn to surprise Vin on his birthday. Here's Aya and Josh with the birthday boy right after we surprised him!
Birthday feastin.
Bi bim bab makes me happy every single time.
Japanese schoolgirl! TEE HEE HEE!
Vin and Aya
HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIN!
After dinner, Vin and I went out for drinks. Here's my attempt at trying to make a halo over Vin's head by waving a candle around in a circle. Mostly just caused a blurry Vin.
Later that night I ran into Sarah and her friend.
Friday, April 25th
Friday morning in Stuytown. Spring has sprung!
My new job has sales guys that keep track of their sales with magnet boards just like in the movies. COFFEE'S FOR CLOSERS!
Friday night Vin and I went to sick loft party in Tribeca. We walked through the door into the living room and we met with...
...a dance-party explosion! The source? Look directly under the disco ball and peep DJ Matty Matt on the decks in the other room! Hahaha!
I danced a whole bunch and got a sweaty hair-helmet.
On the walk home I saw this box and it made me LOL. Why is PILLOW in quotation marks? It seems so shady. No, sir I did not say this was a pillow sale. This is clearly a "pillow" sale! Now, good day!
Stuytown's spring bloom is beautiful at night.
Lean on me.
It was one of the first warm evenings of the year and I went up onto the roof to admire the wonderful Mad Max views it affords.
Con Ed and Ave D.
The other reason I like to go up to the roof is so that I can...
....GET MUH PEEP-ON! Awwwww, yeah! That's right, female of indeterminate age! I (sort of) see you walking around in (what appears like it could potentially be) a sexy nightgown! Holla!
Vice City, indeed.
Monday, April 28th
April showers making things day-glo green.
On Monday night, I was going to some party at Bowery Electric with Posh Tony. My friend Miye was nearby and planned to meet up with us - but Miye ended up feeling sick and instead sent her crazy friend Buanao (who I love!) over to meet us. Then, right when we got there, we also randomly ran into Xiomara who I hadn't seen in YEARS!
Hahaha. So here we all are. Posh Tony, Buanao, Buanao's friend whose name I forget (sorry!), and Xio.
To long lost friends...
...and the Playa Hatas Ball!
Tuesday, April 29th
The next day I got the following message from Miye at 4:35pm: "How late were u guys out? Buanao can't remember anything! I have been in bed all day 102 fever." Hahaha. Happy April 2008!
