On Friday morning I awoke to the sound of the Parks department cutting down my favorite Willow tree in La Plaza Cultural.

The tree's roots had been damaged by salt water when the
neighborhood flooded during hurricane Sandy
and they were worried about it eventually falling over and hurting someone.
