Spent the afternoon whiteboarding with a startup client that had recently closed a round of funding. I ask people questions about their business and draw a map while we talk! They usually look something like this!
Spent the late afternoon geeking out with SQL queries trying to help my new client understand where their traffic is coming from and where it's converting best. Sketched it out first...
Primarily, I helped them come up and present to their board a new sprint process that would allow them to execute fourteen, three-week sprints for the year.
On Wednesday I biked to Flatiron to meet with with Ilir, the founder of a start-up called MyPizza that had recently raised a small seed-round of funding.
They had just hired their fourth employee (Jen Burger!) and first full-time sales person. They've since changed their name to Slice are well-over a 100 employees and have $30MM in venture funding! I love that I get to work with baby companies and see them get big.
...and spent the afternoon helping them put together a plan for how they were going to invest their software engineering hours for the rest of the quarter. I love talking and problem-solving and drawing on whiteboards and feel blessed that I've found companies that invite me in to help solve their biggest problems.
Not only did they work together to define very specific, company-wide success metrics for the quarter, they made signs and hung them around the office so everyone knows the goal. (Quartly Goals: Sell 125k in new business. Launch 90% of the rev in the que. Keep 101% of revenue from churning.) Awesome to see a small, software company have explosive growth while tracking to profitability!
Thursday afternoon I biked over to Midtown to meet with Alice, a new startup I was advising that was sharing office space with another startup I'd advised years earlier!
...and was excited to see they'd hung up signs all over the office memorializing the simple 3 metrics they'd come up with as a company to track their success over the next quarter.
Started off the month with some consulting work! Nobody likes digging into another person's big complicated spreadsheet like me! Trying to understand what numbers say is more fun to me than Netflix. (PS - sorry about my hobo-desk. I eventually gussy it up with some handsome contact-paper).
On Wednesday I rode my bike to Union Square to have my first meeting with LeagueApps as a prospective client. (The meeting went great and I ended up helping them with Product & Sales growth for the next 2 years!)
On Tuesday afternoon, I stopped by Yipit, my very first consulting client's office, to catch up with how their business has been growing! Happy March 2015!
On Tuesday, I went to visit Ammon at Everplans. I didn't end up working with them at all, but they introduced me to LeagueApps who became a client of mine for several years!
