chris b
We all grew up playing shuffleboard together in our pop-pop's basement....
chris b
My dad's brother Bruce and his two sons Chris & Steve all came to the hospital to visit my dad. All the Battjer boys in one place!
chris b
Props to the Uber driver who had to pick up our rowdy drunk asses several hours later....
chris b
...and to celebrate Chris' birthday!
chris b
Drove over to Chris and Jen's house for dinner...
chris b
...and was relieved to see my family there hanging out....
chris b
...we picked up some dinner!
chris b
...and headed out on his boat to a bar called the Sandbar.
chris b
The next afternoon, we went over to Chris...
chris b
After dinner whiskeys and cigars (shhh...don't tell mom!) outside. Happy birthday, dad!
chris b
My dad cracking jokes with my cousin Chris.
chris b
Lotsa boy Battjers & Dexter the dog!
chris b
Me and Chris getting our Atari on Christmas morning 1983! Concentration face! Haha.
chris b
My brother and my cousins with a hired Santa at Pop-Pop's basement Christmas party. Everyone's face in this photo is so funny!
chris b
...and my parents and Jen's parents all came over for dinner!
chris b
On Thursday afternoon, I went over to Chris' house and we paddled canoes out the inlet towards the sea. About 45 minutes after we left, a HUGE storm rolled in, and we had to paddle back in a hurry against a strong current that came out of nowhere. My arms were sore for DAYS. Hahaha.
chris b
...and we went to the nearby gun range!
chris b
Later that evening we went over to Bruce's to see Chris and Jen's girls open their Christmas presents!
chris b
...had ourselves a faaaacny dinner!
chris b
All packed up and ready...
chris b
They caught wave after perfect wave.
chris b
Chris!
chris b
The noodie mural on the wall transported us all back to pop-pop's basement where we'd all spent our childhoods mesmerized by naked ladies.
chris b
Chris shows off what happens when you bring a vegetarian along on a fishing trip. Sorry!
chris b
Good times.
chris b
Ta-da! First keeper!
chris b
Looks like something decent...
chris b
We weren't having much luck at the first spot. Chris hooked first in the second spot.

Chris woke us up bright and early to go fishing. (Gove: IS THIS FOR FISHING?) Breakfast of champions. Steve and Chris representing for the "beefcake" side of the Battjer clan.
chris b
Later that night the COMPETITION resumed!
chris b
The next morning we had to hose down the charcoal from our bonfire.
chris b
I did however manage a teeny tiny bit of ego recovery when I managed to hold my own in BEACH WASHERS, the poor man's version of horseshoes that we played every night at sunset...
chris b
...family style dinner courtesy of Chris' cooking skills!
chris b
Later that afternoon, Chris and Steve decided to go for a second session...
chris b
Nice long reading session after lunch.
chris b
...to find that we'd locked ourselves out. Chris quickly demonstrated that if you're fit enough to surf that waves, you're also fit enough to easily break into the condo!
chris b
...they called it quits...
chris b
On the way back from our hike, we met a friendly Australian and chatted a bit in the shade while we waited for the tide to go down...
chris b
We made our way over the rocks...

chris b
Bonus points to Melissa (all the way on the left) who looks as if she's in the midst of "making it clap."
chris b
...but we ended up hanging out drinking on the porch...
chris b
Haha.
chris b
Haha. Elyse, Bruce, Chris, Steve, me and Nalin!
chris b
I call this photo "Drunk Cousins."
chris b
Haha. Let's hear it for NEW FRIENDS!
chris b
That was the sensible choice. Chris, Steve and I decided to keep on drinking heavily and somehow ended up on the beach partying with the locals we'd met in the bar.
chris b
Bruce, Brett and Chris.
chris b
Me with my cousins Steve and Chris.

My dad's parents, Hank and Connie Battjer, with my cousins Chris and Steve. The one on the bottom is me blowing out birthday candles with my cousin Chris watching (and looking like a bug).
chris b
Hahaha. Chris and me are swashbuckling corsairs.
chris b
Another holiday dinner! Clockwise from left: My cousin Chris, mom, Amy, Brett, Amanda, my cousin Steve and Mer. (If I remember correctly, this is right before we all got into a big discussion about global warming - because my cousin Chris, who is a consultant for oil companies, doesn't believe it's real. Or that if it is, it's just part of a natural cycle and has nothing to do with humans burning pretty much the ENTIRE oil supply that took x years to develop in just the last 100-odd years. Hmmm....)
chris b
Getting ready to throw it into the crowd of studly bucks.
chris b
Chris sneaking the garter off of Jen's leg.
chris b
Married! (Funnily enough, this is almost the same exact picture I took of my friend Chris Hannigan when he and Mandy got married). Congrats Chris and Jen!

chris b
The ceremony.
chris b
Jen (Battjer!), Chris and Bruce.
chris b
So get this: There's a day camp right next to the country club that was having a pool party and playing loud music. A few of the groomsmen walked over, told them that a wedding was about to start and asked if they'd mind turning their speakers off for the next thirty minutes. They agreed. Well, I guess the ceremony took exactly thirty minutes, because literally the very moment that Jen and Chris turned around and were introduced to the audience as "Mr. and Mrs. Chris Battjer," the music, as if on cue, kicked back in playing "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen at top volume. It was amazing.
chris b
Look! It's the other Battjers! Chris, Bruce and Steve. After getting suited up and noshing for a bit (ok, and having a few warm up drinks) it was time to head over to the country club where the wedding ceremony was being held.
