Here's an archive of the introductions from the front page (along with all the comments people left)! Friday, October 28th, 2011 - Three new entries down below. Happy Halloween! Monday, October 3rd, 2011 - Happy October! Down below you'll find the first two entries from our AMAZING honeymoon in Bali, Indonesia. :) Saturday, September 3rd, 2011 - Two years and two days ago I made the best decision of my life. Happy two-year anniversary, Mer! Monday, August 1st, 2011 - Happy August! Down below you'll find the biggest update I've done in YEARS! Seven new entries from July and August of 2009. It was the final weeks leading up to Meredith and I going off to get married and we were going for it in a big way. Going through all these photos made me so happy. Can't believe our TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY is coming up in a few weeks. I hope they make you smile half as much as I did. ;) I also fixed it so that everyone can comment on the front page again. I feel like no really posts comments anymore. Do people not like the new system (powered by Disqus) or do people just not feel like commenting anymore? If anyone has suggestions for something better, I'm all ears! Wednesday, June 29th, 2011 - Hi, Everyone! Happy almost-July! Down below you'll find two new entries. Also, I'm looking for small business owners that have an Android phone to get feedback on the beta version of a mobile app called Pictimonial. A Pictimonial is a picture+testimonial. As a business owner, it's easy to get terrible reviews (because customers are angry) but it's a lot harder to get reviews from your happy customers. With Pictimonial, a business owner uses their phone to take a picture of a happy customer. After taking the photo, they ask the customer for their email address so you can send them a link to their "happy customer photo." The customer receives an email from the business owner with a link to view their photo. When the customer clicks the link to view their photo, there's a form for them to write a review about your business. In the future versions, we'll be taking the reviews and distributing them around the web (Twitter, Facebook, Google Places, etc) so that prospect customers will be able to read what your happy customers have to say. Go to Pictimonial.com and download the free app today! Thanks! Here's an overview of how it works. Snap it!![]() After fixing Dave's lock, Mike the locksmith asks Dave to pose for a "happy customer" photo and takes his picture using the Pictimonial app on his Android phone. Email it!![]() Mike asks Dave for his email so that he can send him a link to the photo. Click it!![]() Dave clicks on the emailed link to view his photo and is prompted to write a review about Mike's business. Add it!![]() Mike adds the Pictimonial widget to his website so that prospective customers can see a photo gallery of his happy customers! Thursday, June 2nd, 2011 - Happy June! Two new entries down below! Monday, May 2nd, 2011 - Spring has finally made its way to NYC. The sun has never felt finer. Good things are coming. Two huge (140 pics each!) new entries down below - including Tuesday, April 5th, 2011 - I know I'm probably late to the party on this, but I literally cannot stop listening to All Day, the new Girl Talk record. Have you heard it yet? The entire record is a mashup of hip hop and rock and it's pretty much a party in a box. The songs he chooses to juxtapose are absolutely genius. It's hard to pick a favorite moment, but if you forced me, I'd have to go with M.O.P.S' Ante Up, a song about robbing people, intermixed with Miley Cyrus' Party in the USA. Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys (samples by the Dust Brothers!) is still my favorite mashup record of all time, but this is a close second. People have put together all sorts of cool interactive timelines that show you what samples are being played in real time. This one and this one are my two faves. You can download the entire album for free here. Two new entries down below! Thursday, March 24th, 2011 - Three new entries down below! Sunday, February 27th, 2011 - Hi there! I finally got around to write new CSS for this page. I'm not 100% happy with it just yet, but I feel like it's an improvement over the old index. Down below you'll find 6 new entries, including the addition of our new puppy Maddy! I hope you like puppy pics! Thursday, February 10th, 2011 - Oh man, check this out. After I posted about Vin's Fiverr Project where he'll draw you a picture for $5, Grant got in touch with Vin and commissioned him to do drawings of a bunch of photos. He was so pleased with the results that he hired Vin again to make a birthday present for his mom. ![]() He sent Vin this photo which is Pauline's favorite photo of her and Grant. (Awwwww.) ![]() Check out Vin's version! So awesome. He got this image transferred onto a framed canvas and sent it to Pauline! As amazing as this gift is, it sadly takes 2nd place in the "creative gift" department. But I think Grant was perfectly happy to loose to this... ![]() ...incredible birthday cake sculpture Pauline's friends made of her giving a lady A BRAZILIAN WAX (because, in addition to reike sessions, Pauline also does waxing). Holy shit, I can't even believe this is real. Someone made this for GRANT'S MOM. The lady on the table (whose tiny cake-labia can clearly be seen) is holding up a sign that says "Pauline, I said Hollywood, NOT Bas Vegas Strip" (Bas Vegas = Basildon). You can also see a little tub of hot wax and tiny, already-used waxing-strips on the ground. Sooooo, sooo good! New entry of Amy and Brett's wedding down below! Tuesday, January 25th, 2011 - Working hard to keep this site only two years behind. The three new entries down below are retroblogging at its finest! For those of you interested in a update from geek-me: Earlier this week, I purchased Neurosky Mindset. It's basically a set of headphones equipped with sensors that measure the electrical activity of the wearer's brain and sends a feed of this EEG data to a computer via a BlueTooth usb port! The manufacturer has a developer portal with support for all sorts of platforms (Flash, iPhone, Linux, Arduino, Java, etc) and is encouraging people to create games and apps that make use of the headset as a controller or that measure the electrical waveforms of the brain! I've been obsessed with BCIs (brain-computer interfaces) for a loooong time and I'm so excited that serious EEG software is finally coming down to tinkering prices. (The headset is $199). I'll keep you posted on my progress! Friday, January 14th, 2011 - Happy 2011, Everyone! One new entry down below. I'm pleased to announce that I spend what little free time I've had over the last couple of weeks learning CSS and when you read the new entry, you'll see I've posted it using the new template I've designed for the site. Please let me know what you think of it. I'm ironing out a few kinks, but I plan on republishing all the entries using the new look soon! Also, if you're looking for something fun and want to support the arts, Vin set up a page on Fiverr and he'll draw you any photo you send him for $5. Best $5 ever spent! ![]() Here's the pic I sent him and here's what he came back with. ![]() Hahahaha. It was the best $5 I've ever spent. I think for some reason I really look like Mr. Burns in this photo and he captured my Simpson-y essence perfectly. If you want to hire Vin to draw a photo for you, check out his Fiverr Profile. Monday, December 20th, 2010 - The Empathic Civilization ![]() One new guy down below. Monday, December 13th, 2010 - Has everyone seen Pummelvision already? It's pretty rad. You log into their site with your Facebook Connect credentials and it imports all your Facebook photos, sequences them, syncs them to music and outputs a crazy, "your life flashing before your eyes" video like this: Here are a smattering of 600 photos from the last 22 months of my life in just over 4 minutes. Also, two new entries down below. I hope you enjoy them! Wednesday, November 17th, 2010 - Two more entries down below! Monday, November 8th, 2010 - Trying to keep the SADness in check. Oof. Three new entries down below! Monday, October 18th, 2010 - The days are colder, shorter and darker and the weather makes me want to crawl in a hole. Perfect weather for hiding in my apartment and digging up some photos from this time TWO YEARS AGO! All the pics I took in October 2008 down below in three new entries. Bundle up, it's getting chilly out there. Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010 - I didn't take many pics in September 2008, but the ones I did take are pretty, pretty good. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was working on posting these. Good times. Saturday, September 4th, 2010 - Happy, September! Thanks to everyone for all the kind words people wrote in the comments below! I understand that not everyone is interested in seeing pics from what was happening two years ago, but for me, it's way more enjoyable to look back upon things that happened so far back and write about them (commit them to my long term memory, if you will) because with the passing of time you've gained perspective of people you've met and events that transpired. It's more interesting to me to write about it with some distance. (Besides, if I was interested in just sharing recent photos, there are so many tools that are way faster an easier to use than this site!) Don't below are most of the photos I took in August of 2008! I'm going to try to get the rest of photos I have from August posted real soon. Trying to stick to my promise of not falling more than 2 years behind! Update: It's Wednesday night and I just posted the rest of the pics from August in two new entries. Staying on track. Making lists. Getting things done. Monday, August 2nd, 2010 - Working hard to try to not let this site fall more than two years behind! Two days late, but down below I'm proud to present the all the rest of the pics I took back in July 2008. If you like to smoke marijuana this is your new favorite site. (Yes, I know. You're welcome! Playas got themselves an API and everything!) I hope you're enjoying your summer! Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 - Ruh-roh! Looks like I've got a lot of work to do to post everything that happened in July of 2008 before the month of July (two years later) is over! One new entry down below. Monday, June 28th, 2010 - I'm working my hardest to try to not fall any further behind than two years! Two new entries from June of 2008 down below! More on the way soon. Hope you're having a nice summer! Monday, June 7th, 2010 - Hi! Two years and one week ago, I surprised Meredith by proposing to her at a BBQ in front of a shit-ton of our friends. It was awesome. Friday, May 28th, 2010 - Hi Everyone! My good friend Tara started the amazing Leviticus Jewelry all by herself a couple years back! She's spend the last few years selling all handmade pieces and has been growing steadily. A couple months ago, she started rings that required custom molds and custom manufacturing! She took a risk and had a couple of the new designs made (creating the molds is really expensive) and they turned out to be her best sellers. They are totally bad-ass molded rings and they look like this: ![]() Anyway, Tara's since designed 15 new pieces and is trying to bootstrap capital to have her new designs turned into molds so that she can have some example pieces to bring to a big jewelry tradeshow in Las Vegas on August 16th! She needs to raise $5,000 in order to get the molds manufactured and is offering all sorts of cool merch and future discounts to anyone who can help her out! She's using Kickstarter to raise the money (so you don't get charged unless she reaches her goal). I'm making it my personal goal to help her reach this goal! I'm so proud of what she's accomplished over the last 5 years and it's exciting to see her continue to work so hard to continually grow and expand her business. Support a female entrepreneur and pledge to her Kickstarter fund. Even if you can only pledge $10 or $20 DO IT NOW! It would only take 200 people to donate $20 to hit the goal! Please visit Tara's Kickstart page and read more about the project! Donate Now! Do it! Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 - Meredith and I have completed our move to a new apartment and spring is here! Yay! Down below you'll find two new entries including the awesomely epic night Matt's band played MSG. I can't wait to post the next couple of months of entries. We were most definitely partying in full-effect way back in the Spring of 2008! Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 - Today is April 6th, 2010 and down below you'll find a brand new post from April 5th, 2008! This blog is now officially TWO YEARS behind. Fuck recency, bro. It's all about RETRO-BLOGGING these days. Hope you enjoy pics from Andrew Borin's EPIC Annual Scavenger Hunt Birthday Party! More soon! Sunday, March 21st, 2010 - Happy springtime, everyone! Down below you'll find the last two entries of my trip to Egypt and I even managed to post the March 2008 Roundup! I like to post pics from a while back - but I always promised myself I wouldn't let myself fall more than two years behind (and I'm treading dangerously close to that now)! So now that I've finished off the Egypt trip, expect me to start trying to dig my way back ahead. Anyway, hope all these pics from almost TWO YEARS AGO (eeep!) make you smile! Monday, February 22nd, 2010 - Hi, y'all! Posted part 3 of 5 of my Egypt trip down below! Does anyone want to redesign this site for me? I have a whole CMS backend that I wrote, so it's really easy for me to republish this entire site! I just need someone to come up with HTML/CSS for this "overview" page and a template for all of the "entries." Anyone interested in throwing something together quick, holler at me! This site still gets around 20,000 unique visitors a month and I'd be happy to give you or your company credit for the design along with a link! Sunday, January 24th, 2010 - Happy 2010, Everyone! Hope you're all having a great year so far. Been so busy bringing in the New Year that I've hardly had any time to work on this site. I'm about to fall 2 whole years behind (which I just look at to mean that I've becoming an even more advanced RETRO-BLOGGER). Also, I have a favorite new show. It's called Party Down. If you haven't seen it yet, WATCH THE PILOT NOW. I guarantee you'll laugh your ass off. The cast is amazing and even stars Dreamy McPerfectTits from True Blood (aka - Lizzie Caplan...*swoon*). If you have Netflix, you can watch the entire first season online, or you can stream them on the Starz Website. One new entry down below from my trip to Egypt! Wednesday, December 30th, 2009 - Last week I celebrated 10 years in New York City! Here's hoping the next ten years are just as magical! Happy 2010! Down below you'll find the first of a three-part series on my solo trip to Egypt. Sunday, December 6th, 2009 - One new entry down below! Egypt up next! Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 - Three new entries down below (two of which are TOTALLY NSFW. Just a heads up for anyone looking to kill some time at work. You might want to wait until you get home to read these). Hope you get a kick out of them! I'll be staying in NYC for Thanksgiving this year and I hope to get a few more entries up soon! Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 - A couple of weeks after we got back from our honeymoon, Meredith's parents threw a fancy party for us here in New York City for our families. We didn't invite ANY of our friends because we're planning on having a "kids party" some time before the end of the year. Anyway, the day before the party was happening, Meredith's mom called and told her that 10 guests had cancelled last minute and that if we thought anyone we knew would be able to attend on such short notice, we should invite them! We jumped at the chance! And no less than 6 hours later, we had 10 of our friends that were in town RSVP! Suddenly, the party that we'd sort of been dreading a bit (shhhhhh!) started to look like it might turn out to be really fun! And fun it was. Check out the AMAZING video that Leigh edited together from the movies that Scott shot at the party. Thanks so much you two. Best wedding present ever! (Seriously, we've watched it like 50 times and we LOL and get misty every single time). Ok, without further ado: Two new entries down below (2008 in the house!). I hope you like them! Monday, October 12th, 2009 - Anybody interested in hopping in the time machine and heading all the way back to January of 2008? That's right, everyone! I finally managed to finish my recap of 2007 and we're now officially on to 2008! Two new entries down below. I'll try to keep the (what I hope are) hits coming! Monday, September 21st, 2009 - Hey, hey! Greetings from MARRIEDVILLE! We're back from our wedding and honeymoon and we had an amazing time! Thanks to everyone for all the kind words and well-wishes! If any of you are interested in checking out some of the pics before they're posted here (you know, all of you who don't feel like waiting TWO YEARS!) Here are a bunch of links to the galleries I put up on Facebook: Getting Married in Tahoe Part 1 Getting Married in Tahoe Part 2 Honeymoon In Bali Part 1 Honeymoon In Bali Part 2 Honeymoon In Bali Part 3 Honeymoon In Bali Part 4 Honeymoon In Bali Part 5 Two new entries down below! More to come as I'm finally getting settled back in (and so is WINTER). So hopefully cold weather means more posts! Hope you like the new stuff! Saturday, August 29th, 2009 - Hi Everyone! We're leaving to fly to Lake Tahoe in a couple of hours! (Our flight's at 7am, blech!). We'll be there with just our parents for Sunday evening and Monday. We get married on Tuesday on the lake, then we leave that night for almost two weeks in Bali! There's one new entry down below. More to come in September when we're back! If anyone knows people in Bali or awesome stuff we should check out, holler down below! Bye! ![]() PS - Check out Mer's dress! Wowsa! Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 - Okey doke! One brand new post down below. (Er, if photos from 2007 can in any way be considered "new"). Sorry for the lack of posts lately - we've been busy trying to compensate for summer's slow start by partying our nuts off. Hahah. Oh, and we're also sorta busy planning our wedding. We're flying to Lake Tahoe with just our parents, getting married on the lake on September 1st, and then the very next night we're leaving our parents behind and going to Bali for our honeymoon. Holla! Hope the pics from November 2007 bring back fond memories! Thursday, July 9th, 2009 - OMG. No update yet, but I had to quickly chime in to post the video that Leigh made of our little baby (idiot) dog trying to get her bone off the couch. She can TOTALLY jump up onto the couch, but instead of doing that, she elected to do a hoppity little dance instead. Check it out! Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 - By popular request, here are some pics of Fatty playing bass in the wedding band AT HIS OWN WEDDING! ![]() It was really sweet because after every song, Fatty would try to give up the bass to someone else and Marina kept being like "No, keep playing!" and then she'd stand there right in front of the band on the edge of the dance floor so that she could be with her man while he kept on playing. ![]() And also so that she'd have a front row seat for when Fatty invariably busted out some of his old school metal moves (stolen right outta Whitesnake's music video playbook). Haha. One new entry down below! Hope it brings back some fond memories of yesteryear (aka 2007!). Monday, June 1st, 2009 - Hi! Happy Monday! Sorry for the lack of updates lately. Summer's been really busy and I haven't gotten much of a chance to work on the site. I'm also afraid that I have some bad news to report. Or at least bad news for all the ladies out there that have expressed interest in the hunka-hunka burning man love that is David "The Fatty" Fateman... ...that's right ladies, he's officially taken! A whole bunch of us rented a big ol' minivan and spent the weekend about an hour upstate to watch the Fatty get hitched to his lovely new bride, Marina! The wedding was pretty much the most fun I've ever had at a wedding. Sooooo much fun. And since we all know that you won't be seeing all of the wedding pics I took for oh, at least another year or two, here are a couple of my faves to hold you over until then! ![]() Yay! After years and years of enduring an endless parade of hopeful, would-be-Mrs-Fattys, here's the lucky winner. Look how happy they are together! ![]() Instead of a wedding cake, Fatty and Marina decided on cupcakes! Here they are doing the whole ceremonial "cutting of the CUPCAKE." ![]() Fatty feeding Marina (who is strategically blocking her mouth with her hand so she'd be ready to thwart any attempts Dave might make to smash the cupcake into her face). ![]() Marina feeding Fatty! Marina started to shove the cupcake at Fatty but he just opened up his yob and swallowed the whole thing like NBD. ![]() Congrats, Fatty & Marina! Here's wishing you guys an awesome life together! More entries soon! Hope you're having a happy summer! Sunday, May 17th, 2009 - Hi! Two new entries down below! I'm going to keep working away at some new ones and before you know it, I'll be posting photos from 2008! Ha! Monday, April 27th, 2009 - Happy Monday! Two new entries down below. Spring is here and it is a good thing. More coming soon! Sunday, April 5th, 2009 - Hi! Happy Almost-Spring! After months of work, I've finally managed to finish off our vacation in the UAE and Thailand! The fact that it took me three months to describe what I spend a month taking photos of, probably means I take too many photos. In addition to the last vacation entry, I also got pics from September posted. I hope they make you laugh! Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 - Hi, there. Yes, it's nice to see you too! Yes. Yes! Hmmm, I don't know! Life is good. Work is busy. What else? Oh, I know. The other night we had friends over to play Cranium for Meredith's birthday. After everyone had left, I said to Meredith "It's ironic that in Cranium you play a game where you have to give the definitions of words - but I don't think I know the exact definition of the word cranium." Meredith said, "Well, I totally know what it is." So I challenged her. She rose to my challenge and then proceeded to attempt to convince me (poorly, I might add) that a cranium is: "basically kind of a like a cross between a skull and a head." HAHAHAHAHAHA. Boy, oh, boy. She's lucky she's so pretty, huh? PS - Thank you, your Honor. On Ms. Silverman's behalf, the defense would like to present to the ladies and gentlemen of the jury: Exhibit A: MARIJUANA! PPS - Here is a picture of our dog. She is good. She is already bigger. She has already made friends with Edie. Here is a photo of them napping all good and wienery together on the same bed. FRONDS! (Fränz?) ![]() OK, you're weird! I think that's all for now. One new post below. See you soon, old friend! Monday, March 2nd, 2009 - Hi Everyone, happy Monday! Down below you'll find a new entry from our trip to Thailand. After this one, there's only two more to go, then it'll be back to chronicling life in boring ol' New York City. In other exciting news, Meredith and I got a puppy this past Friday night! Her name is Maddy and she's an eight-week old mini daschund with a dappled coat. (which is exactly what Edie, my most favorite dog in the world, is). Maddy looks a bit different than Edie because she's mostly brown, which is called Chocolate Dappled. Even stranger, she has complete heterochromia, which is just a fancy way of saying she has two different colored eyes. A blue one and a brown one in her case. Anyway, here are a few pics of her! ![]() Here she is on the cab ride home ten minutes after we met her for the first time! She was crying and missing her family, but at the same time was wagging her tail and already being a love-bug with us. She climbed up my back and wedged herself between me and the seat and spend most of the ride of there. We'd only known her for a little bit and she was already proving herself to be a total weirdo! ![]() Back at our apartment, she spend a little bit of time in our laps... ![]() ...before heading out to explore! ![]() Soooo looooong and weinery! ![]() Lap time with mom. ![]() So cute it hurts my heart. Hope you all think she's cute because I've got a feeling that if you read this site, you're probably going to be seeing lots of pics of her in the future. Monday, February 16th, 2009 - Hey, hey, hey! One new update down below! Hope you like it. Oh, and Meredith and I are getting a puppy in a couple of days. Pics coming real soon. Woot! Also, my new favorite site is Dear Old Love. In the site's own words, "Dear Old Love is short notes to people we've loved (or at least liked). Requited or unrequited." Here are a few of my favorite posts from the site.
I spent a long time reading through the site and remembering what it felt like to be young and emo. Monday, February 2nd, 2009 - Happy Monday! What you are about to see, is the (unintentionally) funniest thing that's ever happened ever. Oh, my sweet baby Jesus. Down below you'll find a new update. I was stuck writing it up yesterday here in cold, wintry New York and it totally made me smile so here's hoping it does the same for you! Monday, January 19th, 2009 - Hey, hey! Down below you'll find a new entry detailing our journey from Bangkok down to Khao Sok National Park. We spent our first day there on a boat-tour of the totally surreal and other-worldly Chieow Laan Lake. If I have time, I'll try to post again before I head down to Florida on Thursday to attend Brett and Amy's wedding! Holy Moly! Oh, and since I last posted, Mer and I totally went to go see Sleepwalk With Me, Mike Birbiglia's one-man show that's currently playing down on Bleecker and Lafayette. If you live anywhere near NYC, you NEED TO GO SEE IT. When I left, my face totally hurt from smiling. Sunday, January 4th, 2009 - Happy 2009, Everyone! Wow, 2009. We are totally living in the future. I spent New Year's Eve at Siege and KT's apartment. Siege set up Wii Fit on a huge projection screen in the living room. Most people didn't notice the video camera that he'd set up on top of the giant projection screen, but each time someone would go up and play the hulahooping game, Siege would slyly hit record on his remote control. He took all of his sneaky footage of everyone playing the virtual hulahooping game and edited together into a video that makes me smile so hard my face hurts: Besides this video, my other new favoritest thing is comedian Mike Birbiglia. Meredith was listening to NPR on New Year's Day, and they had one of his monologues on, and it was hands down one of the funniest things I've ever heard in my life. I was laughing so hard I literally couldn't speak. Immediately after Mer's radio show was over, we bought the comedy album NPR excerpted (My Secret Public Journal Live) and spent the next couple of hours listening to him and laughing. Definitely worth $10. Here's a link to the mp3s on Amazon. If you haven't heard of him, you should definitely check him out. Also, if you live in NYC, he's also got a live theater show going on at the Bleecker theater for the next couple of weeks. Ok, down below you'll find just one new entry - but more coming soon. Hope it makes you laugh! Happy New Year! Sunday, December 14th, 2008 - Happy December, everybody! Down below you'll find the second half of our trip to the United Arab Emirates! Thanks so much to Jason Kottke for writing such an awesome, awesome post about the first part of our trip. I had no idea he even read my site and I was totally bowled over by what nice things he said about my site. To any of the new readers that came here via Jason's link, thanks for checking the site out! Sorry I'm a lamo and only post things every couple of weeks! Siege has a new camera that shoots movies and he's already doing rad stuff with it: I'll be taking some time off for the holidays and as soon as I can beat Dead Space (or as soon as it scares me so badly that I'll have to stop playing...which ever comes first), I'll be adding more entries! Happy Holidays! Monday, November 17th, 2008 - Holy moly, I can't believe it's already been a month since I last posted. The days go by faster and faster! I leave tomorrow for a conference out near San Francisco and then on Friday, I'm driving down to LA to attend Emily and Tim's wedding! So I wanted to make sure I at least got a post up before then or another whole week would've gone by! So down below, please find the first two entries kicking off the epic month-long vacation that Meredith and I took to The United Arab Emirates and Thailand. I didn't get a chance to tag all the photos yet (because it's real late) but I'll make sure to do that before I post again. I hope you enjoy them! (PS - Mafalda, if you read this Meredith wanted to make sure that I told you there's a surprise waiting for you in her Etsy Store!) Monday, October 20th, 2008 - Hey, hey! Eight days later and I've already got another two posts! (Now that I've almost finished stocking up our shelves with "Oh my god the world is going to end" food-supplies, I've had more time to work on the site!). I hope you enjoy them. More on the way soon! Oh, since I'm always linking to both Tara and Meredith's jewelry creations, it's only fair that I link to Nina's latest collection, since she was the first person I knew that started making her own jewelry! Sunday, October 12th, 2008 - It's almost been a month since I last posted entries! Between my job, frantically following every piece of news about the election and the stock market (and preparing for the worst...buy gold, buy emergency food supplies!) I haven't really had much time to spend captioning photos from over a year ago! But I finally managed to sit down this weekend so down below you'll find three new entries! I hope you like them! Oh, and Meredith's been a busy little bee casting jewelry out of resin! Check out the store she she up on Etsy: Friendly Taco! Yay! Friday, September 19th, 2008 - For those that are having problems seeing images in some of the entries: This may be happening because you have a cached IP address for my domain. I hope you like them! Monday, September 1st, 2008 - Labor Day, Schmabor Day. Summer's almost over. Argh. One new entry down below! More to come soon because the weather will get shitty and cold and I'll be able to spend my Saturdays holed up in the apartment all day and not feel guilty about "not being outside enjoying the nice weather." (See, all that nagging paid off. Happy now, Mom?). Hope you all had yourselves a a nice summer! Thursday, August 14th, 2008 - Holy crap, it's been a month since my last update! Who's a worse blogger than me? Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been real busy with work and I feel like this summer's been passing me by. So I've been trying to spend all of my free time doing fun, summery stuff instead of sitting, squirreled away in my little room working on this site. Last weekend I turned 32 and got so drunk at my own birthday party that I had to go outside and "walk it off" so I didn't throw up! I left the party a little after 2am, and was feeling good enough to return around 2:30am, but right as I was walking back into my building, I ran into Mandy and she was like "Where have you been? Everybody left!" Sure enough, when I got back up to the apartment every single guest had gone home! I ruined my own party! How's that for turning into an old fucker? I was so disappointed in myself. Old party-me would have never let that happen! In maybe-I'm-not-so-old-after-all news, the weekend prior to my birthday, I went skydiving for the first time. Shit was B-A-N-A-N-A-S! Here's a video of my doing my very first tandem jump at The Ranch near New Paltz. We jumped from 13,500 feet and I pull the chute at 6,000 feet. I got to freefall for about 60 seconds at around 120 MPH. ![]() Here's a shot of me right as I'm leaving the plane! ![]() And here's me right after stabilizing (with my awesome tandem diver, Van. Dude has over 4,000 jumps!). Here's the vid where you can watch me having my tiny mind BLOWN! Three new entries down below! Hope you enjoy them! Monday, July 14th, 2008 - Happy Monday! Thanks for all of the people that entered the "Most Embarrassing Sex Story Contest!" Here are the winners: 1st Place: Kimberly's "lakehouse anal" story. Ooooof! 2nd Place: Varla's account of "accidental anal." 3nd Place: Goes to Romeo and his "Clean the Beach Day!" story! Honorable Mention #1: Dr. C for his list of things people say when they're under anesthesia and getting a cameras put up their bums. Honorable Mention #2: Caleb's hilarious and awkwardly-worded account of the time he finger-blasted his friend's sister! (the story's post-script made me LOL). Congrats to the winners! I'll be in touch later this week to get your mailing addresses. (And Caleb and Dr. C, I'll see if I can wrangle up a few more copies!). Two new entries down below! I'm happy to announce that I've rewritten the photo-tagging system I was playing around with a few months ago! You'll notice that all the recent entries have tags listed after each photo and you can also check out the big old "tag cloud" page that lists all the tags for photos all the way back through 2006! (It's a work in progress - I'm trying to migrate my entire site, all the way back to 1996, into the content management system I've written! Hope you enjoy the new entries! Sunday, July 6th, 2008 - RANDOMNESS: I was standing on the corner of 2nd Ave and 12th St. in the East Village with Meredith and Ellen yesterday at 8pm (we'd just gotten out of a a movie), when a white Acura with NJ plates drove past us going east on 12th - the driver, a woman in her mid-twenties, saw me standing on the corner and as she drove by, she leaned her head out the window and screamed "BRIAN YOU PUT ME ON YOUR WEBSITE!" Who are you, Mystery Woman? Kindly identify yourself! (New entries coming veeeeeeery soon! And don't forget to enter the "Most Embarrassing Sex Story" contest down below! Sunday, June 29th, 2008 - Hey, hey! My good friends Emma and Lorelei (aka - Em & Lo) just released a new book! It's called Sex: How to Do Everything Their book publisher has given me three extra copies of the book to give away, so that means it's CONTEST TIME! If you want to win a copy of the book (and pick up lots of sexy knowledge!), you can enter by using the comment section down below to tell your very best "embarrassing sex story!" Make sure to include your email address so that if you win, I can get your address so the publisher can mail you your prize! (You must live in the US. Sorry! The books are expensive to ship so the publisher asked me to keep it domestic!) I'll wait two weeks, and then pick my favorite three stories! Don't hold back - let's hear your most embarrassing sex-story! Oh, and there's two new entries down below! More on the way soon! Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 - Holy moly! Thanks for all the wonderful congrats about our engagement! I was pleasantly surprised to see that the congratulatory comment count exceeded the comment count for the previous posts' lizard controversy! You guys are the best blog readers ever! Awwwww! After a few hectic couple of weeks, things are finally starting to settle down a bit! There's one new entry down below and I'm working on a few more that I hope to get live sometime in the next week or two. Oh! And next time I post I'll be posting about a CONTEST where you can win PRIZES! Hoooo-boy! I hope you enjoy reading about my Jesus-Theme-Park adventures in Orlando! Thursday, May 29th, 2008 - Hi Everybody! Sorry I've been MIA lately - besides my new job being really busy, the rest of my time over the last few weeks has been spent planning a secret proposal! This past Monday I popped the question and Meredith said yes. ;) This past Monday was the four year anniversary of the first time Meredith asked me out on a date. It happened on the couch at Sarah Lewittin's apartment during a Memorial Day BBQ she was having. So, I decided I was going to invite all of our mutual friends, and also invite a bunch of Meredith's friends to come and witness the proposal. I got there with Meredith around 5:30, and I texted ahead right before we got there so all of Meredith's friends, could go and hide in the hallway...because I knew if she saw them there, she'd figure out that something was up. She went and sat down on the couch, and after she was settled in, we brought all the people in from the hallway and then hid in the corner of the apartment just out of Meredith's sight. With everyone wise to what was about to happen, I went over and sat down on the couch next to Meredith and said "Hey, remember when you asked me out for the first time four years ago? Well, I guess it's my turn to ask you something..." The whole room got quiet and Meredith was confused for a sec and then she looked around and noticed all her friends in the corner...and then I got down on knee and popped the big one. She was so surprised she just kept laughing...and then she responded: "Will you stay in this house and continue to rock my world?" Hahaha. Here's the vid courtesy of Siege. I hope you enjoy it! Look for an update sometime next week! Monday, May 5th, 2008 - Happy Monday! So check this out: After lunch on Saturday, Meredith and I were walking home and we decided to pop into our local pet store and look at the animals. We were in the back looking at the lizards and we found a tank that had three lizards (all skinks) in it. Two of the skinks were big and colorful, the other skink was smaller and less colorful. Right as we were standing there watching them, one of the big skinks runs all the way across the cage and starts attacking the small skink! At first we thought they were just play-fighting, but then the big skink starting swallowing his friend whole! It was totally shocking. So shocking that I didn't even think to take my camera out until we was half-finished eating him and then I snapped this picture: ![]() Pretty gruesome, right? Brother, you don't even know the half (ha!) of it. So the big guy's almost completely eaten the little guy, he's gotten everything down except the tail which he apparently decides he doesn't like because he clamps his mouth shut and severs the tail off...which upon being severed starts frantically wriggling around in the cage. Check it: The thing wriggled like that for almost 2 minutes before finally running out of juice. A few minutes later, a pet-store employee walked by and we told what we'd witnessed and showed him the video and he was like "Oh, man. I gotta show this to my boss. I keep telling him this is why nobody but me should be allowed to do the lizards! You can't put a little guy like that in with the skinks! What was he thinking?" Anyway, it was pretty crazy. Put Discovery in HD to shame! As promised, down below you'll find three new entries! Monday, April 28th, 2008 - Awwww, yeah! 2007 is in the house! I'm now officially only 14 months behind on this blog! Check back in next week because I've got a whole buncha new entries queued up in the hopper! I hope you enjoy! Monday, April 14th, 2008 - Happy Monday! Two new entries down below which means that I'm done with 2006 and the next entries will be from 2007! I'm only 16 months behind! Hope you get a laugh out of the new pics! More to come soon! Monday, April 7th, 2008 - I'm back from Egypt! Thanks to all those who wrote me with travel suggestions and advice - I ended up having a great time. I spent the first week sight seeing in Cairo and Luxor, and then spent the second half of the vacation scuba diving in Dahab! Down below you'll find two new entries. One of the two new entries is Halloween 2006 which is the official 10 year anniversary of this site (my very first entry was Halloween 1996)! Pretty much the only thing that's changed since back then is that these days I have a way less-awesome haircut! Hahaha. Here's to another ten years of i keep a diary! Oh, and one last thing...I should've posted about this sooner (especially because it's about karaoke) but I'm a bad friend! Sarah's new book came out a few weeks ago and it's awesome. It's a pocket guide book that has hundreds of different lists of karaoke songs to sing. There's pretty much a list of awesome songs for every occasion you can think of! ![]() Head to Amazon and check it out, it's less than $10! POCKET KARAOKE by Sarah Lewitinn Thursday, March 13th, 2008 - First off, I finally got around to fixing my RSS feed! If you look over there on the right, you'll see a new RSS icon and you can even sign up to get notified of updates via email! Go on and subscribe! Second, wow! Thanks to everyone who emailed and left comments with vacation suggestions! I came really close to buying a ticket to Peru, but Meredith really wants to see Machu Picchu so I figured I'd wait on that until we can go there together! I ended up buying a ticket to Egypt! I leave Sunday morning and I'll be gone for 13 days! Egypt ended up winning out because it was relatively inexpensive to fly there, cheap to travel in, and there's a TON of stuff to see and do, plus there's even some great diving sites. And the best part is, I have a layover in Abu Dhabi on the way back to NYC so I might get to see Bernadette, Philip and Faisal! If you live in Egypt or know anyone fun who lives in Egypt, email me and say hi! It'd be great to have someone to meet up with for dinner or something! Third, Tara's IM to me last night about Lucy, Tara's four year-old daughter: Tara: Lucy is obsessed with Star Wars now and she insists on being called "Tiny Darth."" she won't even answer to Lucy anymore Me: that makes me LOL so hard Me: tiny darth Me: hahahahaha Tara: it is cute but SO annoying too haha Tara: she wants a star wars bday Tara: and a millenium falcon Tara: she has a lightsaber but she just started playing with it. she was afraid that it was going to cut off her arm Tara: like we would give her a real one hahaha Tara: They have a darth vader costume at target but i don't know if she will wear it. she gets embarrassed so easily Tara: she is really weird. Me: does everyone call her tiny darth? like your mom and stuff? Tara: yeah, and even her teachers at school Tara: all of her Valentine's cards at preschool said "to: tiny darth" Tara: she sings the darth vader song when she walks into places Me: i am literally cackling in front of my keyboard Sooooo funny! If you're interested in helping to support Down below, you'll find two new entries! I hope you like them! Monday, March 10th, 2008 - Wow, it's been a crazy couple of weeks for me! I resigned from Meetup this past Friday. I'd only been there a few short months, but another opportunity came up that I think will be a much better fit for me and as much as I hated to leave Meetup, it was something I had to do! The good news is, I have a few weeks off before I start my new job and I'm planning a trip somewhere! Meredith can't come (grad school) and I don't know anyone else who can take off on such short notice, so it looks like I'll be traveling out alone again. I'm thinking either Egypt, Peru (Machu Picchu!) or maybe Morocco! So if you live in one of those places and would be willing to play tour guide (or offer up a couch for a night or two!), please leave me a comment or shoot me an email (brianbattjer AT gmail.com)! Also feel free to suggest other awesome places that I should think about checking out. Big new update this week! PROMISE! Sunday, February 24th, 2008 - Down below you'll find just one new entry! There are more on the way, but I wanted to post second half of our trip to Grand Cayman (because Joe's going there with his wife on Tuesday and because he asked so nicely). Feel free to email me if you have any questions, Joe! Monday, February 18th, 2008 - 41 comments? 78 comments? Who knew that "i keep a diary" readers were so political? Color me surprised! Down below you'll find two brand new entries (and hopefully I'll publish a few more next week!). I hope you enjoy them! Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 - It's super-Tuesday, y'all! Make sure to vote! Update coming soon! Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 - Wow, who would thunk my little ol' comment about wanting to maybe live somewhere else for a while would spark so many comments? Thanks for all the great feedback, I think this was the first time I ever mentioned anything political on this site, so it was probably a shock to any readers out there who have never met me in person and didn't know that I was a lefty, pinko windbag. ;) Who knows if we'll actually end up moving, I was just putting the feelers out there, because if a sweet-ass job opportunity dropped in my lap and I was able to spend a year or two out of the US (and maybe even get dual citizenship in the EU) that'd be suh-weet! Anyway, thanks again for all the comments, it was nice to read so many different views. (Even if you most of you were wrong! FAIL!) Hahaha. Down below you'll find three brand new entries with nary a political rant! Enjoy! Monday, January 21st, 2008 - Happy Monday! See? I'm trying my hardest to at least publish every other week! In doing the latest batch of entries, I realized I'd mislabeled two folders and so I've gone back and added them in their proper chronological order. Any chance anyone from Scandanavia reads this site? Meredith and I have been pretty bummed out about the United States lately and we'd love to move to country where the majority our income won't be spent on devices that kill brown people (or any people for that matter). So if you live somewhere awesome (Norway and Denmark, I'm looking at you!) and know of any computer-related jobs where speaking English is a plus, please email me (brianbattjer AT google's email site .com). Thanks! Hope you enjoy the two new entries! Sunday, January 6th, 2008 - Holy shit! It's 2008! Happy New Year, everyone! Sorry I haven't updated lately. I had a real solid streak of steady updates, but then I got sick and ended up spending most of December sick in bed. I got a cold that turned into the flu that turned into bronchitis. It got so bad that I didn't even get to see my family for the holidays because I was too sick to take the train out to NJ! Boo! I'm finally all better and I'm happy to be posting two brand new entries! More on the way soon (assuming I can manage to stay germ-free!) I hope you enjoy 'em! Monday, December 10th, 2007 - Happy Monday again! I'm trying to update at least once every two weeks...so in keeping with that, I managed to eek out two new entries down below! One of the new entries is about when I sang in a karaoke competition and while I was working on that entry, it reminded me of a time just a few weeks ago when I was out at karaoke with Posh Tony and he brought me up on stage with him to sing a duet of Easy Lover by Phil Collins and Philip Bailey (from Earth, Wind & Fire). Anyway, I ended up getting Easy Lover stuck in my head which led me to look up the video on YouTube (which I then proceed to watch 10 times in a row). Not only is it a WAY better song than I remembered, I can't believe how badly it made me want to be best friends with Phil Collins! I'm so not even joking. Who knew the whitest guy ever has so much soul? Watch it now. If this shit doesn't brighten your mood, nothing will! Monday, November 26th, 2007 - Happy Monday! I start my new job today and I wanted to make sure I posted some new entries before I get all caught up in first week craziness! Down below you'll find four new entries! And that's not all! In addition to the new entries, I'm launching the beta version of a photo-tagging system that I wrote! If you look on the right-hand side of all the entries from 2006, you'll notice there's now a list of tags featured in each entry! If you click on a tag-link, it'll launch a new window showing you all the photos (only from 2006) that have been tagged with that word! So be sure to click on a few tags and let me know what you think! (So far my favorite tags are laugh, jump, tongue, and yes, alright, boobs!). Fun! Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 - Hey, hey, hey! Check it out: Three brand new entries down below and more on the way soon! Meredith and I moved into a new apartment and we're busy unpacking, but I'm all done with my old job and I've got a few weeks off before I start my new one (at Meetup.com) so as long as the unpacking continues to go smoothly, I should have some time to post more entries soon! Does anyone that reads this belong to any Meetup groups? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the company! Shoot me an email or just leave a comment! Hope you enjoy the new entries! Wednesday, October 31st, 2007 - Happy Halloween Everyone! (I still haven't figured out what I'm going to be! If you've got any good costume ideas, leave a comment!). Three new entries down below! More coming soon! Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 - Happy Tuesday! See? What did I tell you about this fancy new "hassle-free" publishing system? Less work for me means more entries for you! Just four days later and I'm back to post three more entries (which you'll find down below). By the way, remember how I mentioned I was laid up in bed sick? It was because I got a staph infection ON MY FACE! Apparently, everyone always has the bacteria that causes these infections, Staphylococcus aureus, living on their skin at all times. But if you get a cut or a pimple or something and the staph gets into it, it can get serious pretty quickly - which is exactly what happened to me. I went to bed on Wednesday night feeling like I was getting a pimple on my right nostril, and then I woke up on Thursday morning it was evening bigger and REALLY starting to hurt. By around noon on Thursday, I was feeling like I had a fever, so I left early and went to the doctors. My doctor knew what it was and prescribed me antibiotics, but told me that "The meds could take up to 48 hours to work. And your face is going to get a lot worse in that time before it starts to get better." I didn't think much of his words at the time, but when I woke up on Friday morning and my face looked like this: ![]() I took them to heart. Anyway, today's Tuesday, and save for a lil' crusty scab on my right nostril where this whole mess started, my face is pretty much back to normal. I hope you like the new entries down below! Saturday, October 20th, 2007 - Okay! Sorry for the month-long radio silence! I've been hard at work writing a custom publishing system for this site. (And since I'm a C- PHP programmer at best, it took me a lot longer than I thought it would!). Anyway, after almost 10 long years of cranking out these entries in frame-based(!!!) HTML-templates that were written by me in the mid-nineties when I was first learning HTML, I'm happy to report that going forward, all of the new entries will be dynamic! This is probably only exciting to me because it means that I no longer have to go through all the bullshit of hand-coding each entry and manually updating everything! So now that this site is pretty much "hassle free" for me, I'll try to start updating more frequently! There are two new entries down below and I'll try to publish a few more in the next few days (because I'm currently sick as a dog and don't anticipate I'll feel up to doing much else for the next few days). I hope you like them! Monday, September 24th, 2007 - Happy Monday, Everyone! I've been hard at work the last few nights and I've managed to crank out 6 new entries which you'll find down below. I even managed to finish posting all the pics from 2005! So next time I update this site, you'll be seeing pics from 2006 *GASP!* This site is now only 22 months behind - that's the most-current it's been in years! Gooooo, me! I'll keep on trying to crank 'em out and get even more caught up. In the meantime, I hope you like the SIX NEW ENTRIES down below! Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 - Today is sort of a bummer of an anniversary for most New Yorkers so I figured I'd try to do my part to help lighten peoples' day by posting some new entries of my life from almost two years ago! (I know, I know - this blog is really far behind. But whatever, it's more fun for me to write about stuff and reminisce about it than it is to try to post about stuff that just happened. It's like memory lane!). Anyway, it's been a while since I last posted because Meredith and I went away on a month-long vacation! We spent 5 days in the United Arab Emirates staying with our friends Bernadette (who I met online through this site!!!) and her fiance Philip in Dubai and then with Meredith's friend Faisal in Abu Dhabi! After our layover in the UAE, we flew to Thailand and spend the rest of the month island hopping, and scuba diving! I started loading some of our pics onto my Flickr but here's a few of my faves as a sneak peek! ![]() I finally got to meet Bernadette and her fiance Phil in person! We have a lot of friends in common, and one day Bernadette Googled the name of one of our mutual friend's names and came across this site. Anyway, we started IMming, quickly became online friends and had a running joke "If you're ever in my town, you've got a place to stay!" So when Meredith and I were booking our tickets to Thailand, I saw that if we flew on Emirates Airlines, we could layover in Dubai. Bernadette and Phil made good on their offer and were hands down the best hosts we'd ever had the pleasure of staying with. Thanks guys! ![]() Bernadette works for one of the wealthiest families in the UAE and I got to go to his palace and see the cheetahs that he raises in his backyard to give as gifts to the other sheiks. (He looks ferocious, but he's actually only yawning in this photo. Hahah). ![]() We went undie-swimming in the water right at the foot of the famous Burj Al Arab. (We were going to go skinny dipping but at the last minute Bernadette made us realize that it probably wasn't such a smart idea. While the UAE is pretty progressive, it's still a Muslim country and stuff like that doesn't fly so well - especially if you're caught doing it with a girl who has a Muslim last name like Bern does). ![]() We also go to go skiing indoors (!!!) at Ski Dubai. I've wanted to do this for years and it was totally as nutso as I always had dreamed it would be. ![]() I also got to try on some local clothes, thanks to Faisal who hooked me up with some of his duds. ![]() Here's me and Faisal cold-pimping in our dishdashas (the white robe-like garment) and keffiyehs (the traditional Arab headdress) on the grounds of his house in Abu Dhabi. ![]() Then in Thailand, I got to spend some quality time with my good buddy Jeremy whom I hadn't seen in 11 years (because he's been traveling in India and setting up schools in Thailand)! ![]() And lastly, here's a pic of Meredith and I doing some river tubing in the rain down in Khao Sok National Park. (I just wanted to post a few of my faves. I took over 2,000 pics so you can expect a multi-parter covering the whole trip sometime in the year 2009. Hahaha). |
