the july roundup: part two
Here are the second half of the photos I took back in July of 2007. [Click here to go back to Part One]
Wednesday, July 18th
On Wednesday night, Meredith and I went down to 2nd On 2nd to sing some late-night karaoke! Here's Ellen, Amanda, Kip and one of Ellen's friends.
Ellen's really fun to sing karaoke with because she always ends up picking out songs by guys that let her scream in a low voice. (Sort of the opposite of how I always pick girly songs so that I can sing really high!). Here she is doing Self Esteem by The Offspring!
Here's my little monkey singing I'm a Believer by The Monkees!
Meredith and the always-entertaining, Mr. David Kreitman.
Then Amanda went up (in her see-through shirt!)...
and laid down some Britney!
Thursday, July 19th
On Thursday night I went right down the street to Drop Off Service to celebrate Rachael's 28th birthday! Here's Emily and the birthday day girl getting ready to hoist shots of tequila.
Everybody knows tequila makes you dance! Here's Little Rachel giving Big Rachael a twirl.
Tim, Emily and Patrick singing Happy Birthday.
Yay! Happy 28th, Ray!
Now drink!
Oh man. The weird, fruity birthday shots just kept coming. Here's Emily and Ray getting ready to do another Sex On The Beach type drink. Blech!
Rachael's Rutgers crew! Karen, Ray, Little Rachel, Jodi, Nicole (and a girl I don't recognize).
After saying farewell to the birthday girl, I headed around the corner to meet up with Meredith who was out drinking with some ITP people. Here's Jaymes and Meredith.
Making new friends!
Poke your eye!
Friday, July 20th
On Friday night I went over to The Annex super-late to meet up with little miss Leigh Lezark. The basement of the Annex was way too loud and crowded so Leigh suggested that we "explore." Our exploration of the basement led to us finding a secret utilities room that was pitch dark. Here's the photo I took after I lied and told Leigh that "This room has one of those pull-chain lights. You just need to find the string." I love how it looks like she's just sniffin' her armpit. Hahaha.
We finally found the light switch and ended up hiding out! Who likes secret backrooms more than this one?
After the Annex, I headed over to Angels & Kings for last call to say hi to Nina and Gurj. (By the way, Nina just launched a website for her new jewelry collection, and I have to say, I'm really, really impressed! Make sure to check it out!)
Brad was there taking photos and we hammed it up for him. 'Reserved' Sign + Crotch + Two Pretty Ladies Pointing at Crotch + David Brent Face = Comedy GOLD.
Saturday, July 21st
On Saturday I met up with Posh Tony and we headed out to Coney Island for the Siren Music Festival. Here's Posh on the boardwalk with fellow musician Jack.
The day was perfect!
Posh and I got hooked up with wristbands! Wristbands provide you with two luxuries at Siren Fest: One, you get to drink for free at the backstage tent. Woooo! Two, you get to watch the bands right in front of the stage in an area block off from the rest of the crowd with gates. The downside is that it's WAY TOO LOUD. The upside is that it's not very crowded which means you don't end up trying to watch a band with sweaty bodies pressed against you in the July sun. Score!
Here's We Are Scientists playing.
Check out the crowd!
And the Cyclone!
After We Are Scientists finished, Posh and I hit the boardwalk...
...and got our motherfucking boardwalk snacks on! Pizza and a funnel cake? You betcha!
Hahaha. After we finished our snack, we walked around the boardwalk for a while and then decided to call it a day. There weren't many other bands playing that we were interested in seeing...er, and we both had stomachaches from eating greasy boardwalk food. Hahah.
On the way back to the subway, we ran into Eva and Jenny Penny!
"Our tummies feel like ouch."
Late, late, late that night I stopped by MisShapes for one drink. Jackson was DJing.
Sunday, July 22nd
Meredith's friend Lisa was going out of town for a couple of days and on Sunday she brought her dog Sadie over for us to dogsit!
Sadie is really old and like most Whippets is sort of shy. So we spent most of Sunday on the couch getting to know each other. Look how reserved and shy she is! Hahaha.
Monday, July 23rd
On Monday night I went to Piano's for a very special Karaoke Killed the Cat party...
...that's right, it's BOOTYOKE! Once or twice a year, Chris puts together a karaoke night where you have to come in your underwear. (Er, sorta like Sid and Buddy used to have WAY back in the day).
Based on the outfits most people came in, you'd think American Apparel helped them come up with the idea. Hahaha
Not that I'm complaining or anything.
Here's Chris lending some backing vocals and gong-accompaniment!
You gotta hand it to them, though. It's a winning formula. The only thing more fun than cute girls at karaoke is scantily-clad cute girls at karaoke. And just so the ladies that read this site don't feel left out...
...here are some pics of my favorite male performers! This guy fucking ruled so hard. Not only was he an amazing singer, he had color coordination, crazy dances moves...
...and sports socks with fake baseball stirrups on them! Hahah.
I figured "sock guy" was the best the men had to offer that night, but then Kevin Myers hit the stage!
You may remember Kevin from the Marryoke Wedding Spectacular as the guy who rocked my world with his incredible version of Prince's song Pussy Control.
Kevin's performance was on-point as always, but considering he got half naked at his friends' wedding, I couldn't help but feel like his "Bootyoke" outfit was a little bit of a let down. Well, that's when Kevin turned around, bent over and revealed that...
...this shorts were, uh, see-through. What's more awesomely gross than this photo? (No offense, Kev!).
After showing off the mudspot, there wasn't much point in playing modest. Soon after, the shirt came off.
Followed up by some push-up-style floor humping.
And a luggage-tugging, falsetto-firework finale! Bravo, Kevin! You are one of the few people I know that has achieved "Grand Master" karaoke status.
A little later that night, Vadim took the stage! Vadim is another karaoke regular who always puts on a really funny, over-the-top show.
I didn't think there was any way that Vadim's performance could make me laugh harder than Kevin's, but I was oh-so-wrong! However, in all fairness to Kevin, it should be pointed out that Vadim was accidentally funnier. That's because about thirty seconds into Vadim's song, I was snapping pics and I noticed that...
...Vadim had forgotten to shake his wiener after peeing (er, either that or he was really excited to be singing karaoke) and had a huge pee spot on his underwear! Hahaha.
I made sure to point out Vadim's "happy spot" to Matt so that he could get some pics of it for the official Karaoke Killed the Cat site. I love how hard everyone is laughing in this photo.
Halfway through his song, Vadim realized that everyone that was taking pictures was aiming their camera below his waist and realized what had happened and decided to try to combat the situation by...
...turning around and pulling down his pants. So, there you go ladies, ever MORE man ass! Who says that this site is just for the guys?
Matt and a friend dueting it up.
Hahaha.
Towards the end of the night, Matt, Chris and Lord Easy took the stage...
...and dropped some old school hip hop.
It was amazing.
Almost as amazing as Chris' gold tights!
On the way home, I made friends with drunk people on the sidewalk! I told them that I wanted to talk their picture, but that I would only take an "action" picture. Which led to this photo...
...and this one! Yay! Let's hear it for cute girls doing cartwheels in the street in the middle of the night!
Tuesday, July 24th
I left work a little early on Tuesday to head to Penn Station. I met up with Fatty and Kip and we hopped on a LIRR train...
...headed west. We got off near Jones Beach...
...and were picked up by Fatty's little brother, Andy. (aka - "Little Fatty"). And what is the reason for this Tuesday night pilgrimage to the fine, south shore of Long Island?
To see Poison in concert at the Jones Beach Theater!
We had some time to kill before we had to get to the theater, so we decided to get some dinner at Friendly's!
Can you tell who the real Poison fan in this photo is?
Veggie fajita aftermath. After we finished eating...
...it was time for the show! Ratt was the opening band! RATT! Hahahaha. Round and Round is a good song and all, but that was pretty much the only one I knew. (Fatty, on the other hand, has an impressive metal past and was knew all the words to all the songs!).
After Ratt finished their set, Poison came out.
Hahahaha. Check out the Brothers Fateman! Excited much?
We were sort of disappointed with the turn out. We were hoping that the stadium would be FILLED with washed-up metal honeys looking to relive the "glory days" of hair metal, but the place was less than half full!
Bret Michaels on the jumbotron.
Little Fatty was totally star-struck by Bret's little squashed cowboy hat on the big screen! Look how giddy he is!
The beginning of the show was really fun and the band played a bunch of their well-known songs.
But then instead of continuing to play their "hits," they spent the rest of the show playing shitty cover songs. Here's me and Kip reactive to Poison playing a Tom Petty song! WTF?
Turns out, they were promoting the release of their upcoming album Poison'd, that's entirely comprised of (shitty) cover songs. Ugh, it was awful. Poison, you broke my 7th-grade heart.
Thursday, July 26th
On Thursday night, I met up with Amanda and Fatty (and a whole bunch of other people) and we went to go see The Simpsons Movie
Here's a photo of the homemade peanut butter chocolates we brought.
Fatty likey! Happy July!
