the november roundup
Here are all the pics I took in November in one convenient entry! Woo!
Wednesday, November 1st
On Wednesday night I went to Lit to see Alle perform with his band Modwheelmood!
And then I took a photo of this toilet because it had a sticker for a band named "Rathole" and that's Meredith's favorite place to sleep! (The "rathole" in our apartment, not the toilet).
After the show I went over to Sarah's and there was more Lady Sovereign-mask creepiness! This time Lady Sov was being played by...
...Ellen!
Then Sarah surprised me by busting out a promotional poster for Permanent Me's upcoming record - which I did all the photos for! Awesome!
Saturday, November 4th
On Saturday night Fatty and I went to go see the Borat movie. It had opened the night before to huge crowds, which we (mistakenly) thought we could avoid by going to see the 2am showing in Murray Hill!
2am and Murray Hill - and it was STILL mobbed! (Totally worth it, though.)
After the movie, I went over to MisShapes and ended up staying crazy late. Afterwards, I was walking with Jackson to get into someone's car to catch a ride to the afterparty, and we noticed that one of the cars parked on the street was rocking. Upon closer examination, it was revealed that the rocking was being caused by two people fucking in the backseat! I crept up to the car and busted out my camera with the intent to take a sneaky photo of them, but I forgot to turn my flash off and when I took this photo, we all had to run like hell because my flash totally alerted the fuckees in the car to the fact that I had just snapped this pic of them fucking! Whoopsie!
The after-party was at the MisShapes' apartment. Here's Jackson getting crazy with some Scotch tape.
Say what you will about Steve Aoki, but this guy brings the party 24-7. Take this photo for example. It's 5:41am and he's wearing fingerless pink gloves and chugging vodka straight from the bottle even when...
...he's just playing some Connect Four. Rage!
Hahaha.
Sunday, November 5th
Lazy Sunday. Meredith and I got our Odessa brunch on...
...and then spent some quality time saying goodbye to Edie...
...because Leigh came by later that night to pick her up ending our weeks of dog-sitting! Boo!
Wednesday, November 8th
Our friend Ellen Stagg got hired to shoot the holiday billboards for Viacom's headquarters in Time Square and she asked if Meredith and I wanted to model for it! She explained that we'd just have to show up and kiss a bunch of times and that if we were chosen, our smoochin' photo would end up on a huge billboard in Times Square (and we'd get paid!) So of COURSE we went. Here's Katie doing Meredith's makeup for the shoot!
A few weeks later Ellen emailed us to tell us that we'd been chosen for the campaign and that we were going to be on a billboard! Here are cut-ups I made from the proofs she sent us! Me smooching Meredith. Not sure who's in the panel next to us - two guys from a band?
Same goes for the next three panels, I think these are all just people that Ellen cast for the shoot.
I know everyone in these panels! Missy, kissing a dog! And Jack Black and Kyle Gass!
Three more panels of randos!
And here's the last three panels. The proof she sent us showed that all the panels would be made into one huge sign that would be put on the front of MTV's studios right underneath where they film TRL.
In mid-December, Meredith and I started getting emails "Uh, are you guys on a Billboard in Times Square?" so we hopped on the subway to see ourselves for ourselves. Look! There we are! Random!
Thursday, November 9th
On Thursday we were dog-sitting Edie again and we decided to introduce her to Ratso. Edie was interested, but kept a skeptical distance.
She came in for a closer look...
...but when I lifted Ratso up so she could get a closer look...
...she ran away and hid behind Meredith! Hahaha. I love how you can just see her beady little eyes peeking up over Mer's shoulder.
How could you be scared of this face?
Eventually Edie got over her shyness...
...and they made friends. (And by "friends" I mean Edie prodded Ratso in the a-hole with her nose).
This is my favorite photo of Edie ever! Because you can see how silky and shiny and how long and wiener-y she is!
Friday, November 10th
My parents were coming into town the next night to celebrate my mom's birthday so I spend Friday night getting ready by making mom a birthday cake.
Double-decker Angel Food Cake!
AND chocolate chip cookies! Who loves mom more than me?
Then I went out super-late to catch the tail end of a bunch of my friends who were DJing at a bar called Revolver. Revolver is supposed to be some kind of rock club, but it's always packed pretty much exclusively with people from Staten Island and New Jersey who come into the city to "party" on Friday and Saturday nights. (This is actually kind of impressive when you consider that it's pretty far off the beaten path.)
In other words, it's filled with girls who think that "going out" in "The City" means dressing up like this. (Thanks a lot, Carrie Bradshaw).
Hahaha.
And who think it's totally acceptable to just hop on on the bar and "boogie." (Thanks for that, Joe Francis).
Saturday, November 11th
On Saturday night my parents came into town to go out to dinner to celebrate my mom's birthday!
Happy Birthday, Mom!
After dessert, we played Cranium! Guys vs. Gals!
And here's a photo of rats snuggling in a hammock!
Thursday, November 16th
On Thursday night I went to see Mandy and Stellastarr* play a show at an art gallery opening somewhere in midtown.
Friday, November 17th
On Friday night Meredith and I went to the Beacon with a bunch of my co-workers to see Russell Peters perform stand up. It was awesome. (He's notable for being the friendliest racist comic). Latest special is here if you're interested.
Saturday, November 18th
Saturday night I went to MisShapes and I ran into Jamie who was there celebrating her birthday! Here's Nina with the birthday girl!
Nina's crazy see-through shirt.
After MisShapes let out, we hailed a cab and headed crosstown for...
...an afterhours party at 205. Jamie and Nina, crunked.
Nina doing the 5:30am car-lean. Hahaha.
Sunday, November 19th
Rat bath!
Rat bath!
Chalk nose! Chalk nose!
Monday, November 20th
My friend Tavis (who's an incredible illustrator, buy one of his prints!) was in town from Toronto. I went out and met up with him and his buddy for drinks.
Then afterwards, I went over to Pianos for Karaoke.
Right after I arrived, Timmy went up to sing...
...and in the middle of his jam, Shandi rushed the stage and shoved ice down his pants!
Shandi is a trouble-maker.
And a molester.
Timmy, Shandi and me.
Wednesday, November 22nd
On Wednesday night I took the train out to New Jersey for Thanksgiving! I went to The Barn (the bar in my town where everyone goes every year hoping to see other high school classmates) but for some reason, this is the only I have of the night! WTF? Here's Adam Padfield and Rachael!
Afterwards, Rachael and I went to the Roxbury Diner (which is what they re-named the VICTORIA DINER when the Hatzimihalis family sold it). Renaming our high school landmark is one thing, but the new owners took things a step-further and made every item on the menu Roxbury-themed as well. The Route 10 Rancher? The Succasunny Sombrero? C'mon!
Sir L.E.O. of Ledgewood? Jesus.
Rachael does not approve.
Edie came out to New Jersey for Thanksgiving with me! (Leigh was away and we were dog-sitting!). When I got home from the diner...
...I smashed her face!
Friday, November 24th
Something must've happened where I accidentally deleted a bunch of pictures because I don't have ANY photos from Thanksgiving! Boo! But moving on, here's a picture of the happiest dog you've ever seen.
I can haz a stick?
Saturday, November 25th
Here's me wearing (and Edie running away from!) a cougar costume! Meredith ordered this because she needed to make a giant, animatronic cougar that gives hugs for graduate school. (Yes, I'm serious! The finished product was called "Canoodling Cougar!")
Gotcha!
Then later that night Meredith and I went out and met Nina and Peter for drinks.
When we got home, Edie was happy to see us.
Sunday, November 26th
On Sunday a whole bunch of us met up for brunch in honor of Matt finally returning to NYC after almost a year of constant touring! Welcome back, buddy!
While on tour, he grew a jazz pony tail...
...and JEW HORNS!
Meredith has them too! Note: Those aren't really their Jew horns - those were just horns that were mounted on the wall behind Matt and Meredith. (Besides, everybody knows that Jew-horns are short and knobby so that they can easily be hidden under hats).
Sunday night I went to Irving Plaza to see...
...the third and FINAL Texas is the Reason reunion show! (This was one of my most favorite bands back in the mid-90s). The show was incredible. So good to finally hear those songs live 10 years later!
Wednesday, November 29th
On Wednesday night I went to Paper Magazine's nightlife awards ...
...because Sarah and Karen were both nominated in a few categories.
There were bottles and bottles of free vodka which, inevitably, means there are photos like...
...this! (Who do you think you are, Steve Aoki?)
And the winner for Best Party of the Year is...
...Sarah and Karen for their Stolen Transmission party!
Yay!
Go get your award, you little munchkin!
Gurj = excited!
Sarah showing off her scary little faceless doll award!
Then Fergie (???) performed.
I guess all the decent musical acts they contacted had prior engagements.
Congrats Karen & Sarah!
