the may roundup: part two
Here's the rest of the photos I took in May of 2006, that didn't end up in their very own entry but still deserved to see the light of day!
Sunday, May 14th
On Sunday I took the train out to NJ to my Aunt and Uncle's house to spend some time with my family! I have no idea what the occasion was (Grandma's birthday? Memorial Day?), but whatever it was, here's a picture of my dad commemorating the day.
Here's my mom and her sister Elaine!
And here's G-ma with Uncle Wayne!
Tuesday, May 16th
On Tuesday night I was hanging out at the apartment with Niki the roommate and Grant when I got a text message from Gurj telling us to come join her and a bunch of her friends at 2nd on 2nd for some karaoke! We hopped up right off the couch and headed over!
Gurj prepared for karaoke with a generous application of lip balm. (You don't want to open your mouth wide to scream and crack your lips!)
Niki and Grant (seen here most likely ogling a girl at the bar).
Niki, Gurj and Shruti took the stage and rocked it like they were the Asian Pointer Sisters. (I would've just said Indian but Gurjeet don't roll like that).
Back in the day, the cutest girl in the whole wide world used to be the karaoke host there on Tuesday nights.
OMG, I miss her so much!
Here's Grant and I showing off our sick asses.
Shruti couldn't resist copping a feel. Nice n' tight, right?
Grant and Niki took the stage for a duet.
Then it was time for Rob Sheffield to take the stage!
I don't remember what he sang, but I do remember that whatever it was, it was done with PIZAZZ!
And that Grant, Niki and I grabbed the second mic to help out with all the backing vocals! Hahah.
After Rob's song, Grant took the stage and rocked out with Rick James' Superfreak.
That came complete with DLR (David Lee Roth) kicks.
Scratch that. Multiple DLR kicks...
...and even had a kneeling-on-the-floor freestyle outro!
Then Gurj went up and sang Hollaback Girl which is her SIGNATURE jam!
Gurj sings the part that goes "A few times I been around that track so it's not just gonna happen like that..." and then we'd all shout back "'Cause I aint' no hollaback GURJ!" (Because her name is Gurj! Get it?)
Around 2am, lookee lookee who showed up!
That's right! It's Meredith! Hahah.
Grant was so excited, he did the dance move known as "The Sprinkler."
Look who's got mantis arm!
A few minutes later, Shruti and Meredith hit the stage for what started out as a duet...
...but then Meredith realized that she didn't really know the song that Shruti'd chosen, and it quickly turned into a solo where Shruti sang and Meredith took turns crying...
...rubbing the mic on her crotch...
...dancing around Shruti while holding the microphone in a mystical way...
...and giving Shruti second mic to sing into. She ended her performance with the big finale of...
...putting the mic down her pants. Normally, getting vee-ay-gee on the em-eye-see is an offense that'll get you 86-ed from a karaoke bar, but it's nothing...
...a fistfulla dollars to the hostess can't smooth over. Hahah.
Then Gurj took the stage again! After her awesome Gwen Stefani jam, we were all psyched to hear her next selection...
...which turned out to be the super-huge let-down of the century when we realized she'd signed up for John Mayer's "Your Body is a Wonderland!" (WTF, GURJ?)
Then Rob was up again (to sing something sultry!).
I love this photo!
Here's Grant providing some backing vocals.
I need to start carrying around a lil' karaoke notebook and writing down what songs people sing! Because months later I look at all these photos and see all the awesome expressions people are making while they sing and I'm DYING to know what songs they were to! Argh!
Hahaha.
I tried to use the old "I show you my nipple then you show me your nipple" Jedi-mindtrick on my favorite karaoke hostess...
...but only managed to get her to show me her little brown belly. (Oy va voy).
A little before 3am, Grant and Meredith closed out the night with a final duet!
Hahaha.
Again, I'm not sure what song it was, but it apparently required some pogo-ing...
...AND some b-boy dancing!
We bid farewell to our lovely karaoke hostess...
...said goodnight to Shruti and Niki the Roommate (Gurj had to get up early the next morning and had already bailed by this point!) and called it a night!
On the walk home we made stupid faces.
Oh, look! A new ugly face! I call this one "Retarded Mantis!"
Meredith's old apartment! (This was before we moved in together). Awwww.
Thursday, May 18th
On Thursday night, I went to a party at The Annex and right when I got there (around 2am) I ran into Crazy Jay...
and Vibeke (who's hands down, the most out-of-control, will do ANYTHING on a dare, girl I know). For reasons unclear, the minute I ran into her, she took her panties off and put them around my neck. (That's just how she rolls).
Here's Jay proudly helping me show off my new undie-necklace.
Hahahah. Oh, come on! Don't get holier than thou. It's not like they didn't just come from somewhere...
...where you wouldn't mind putting your face! (Photo totally stolen from Burning Angel).
With Vibeke now undie-less, somehow it made sense to dare her to hover over a stool, PEE on the stool a little bit, and then stand next to the pissed-on stool at the bar and see if she could get some guy to roll up, try to flirt with her and sit down on the stool (and on her piss). Hahahaha.
Part one of the operation took FOREVER! Vibeke was shocked at her inability to clandestinely conjure up a little urine while hovering over a stool in a crowded bar! She said the hardest part was trying to keep it limited to a little trickle - she was afraid that once she started going, she wasn't going to be able to stop and was going to unleash a flood on the floor. But in the end, she managed to eek out a perfectly proportioned puddle! Here she is proudly showing off her "piss trap!"
Sure enough, 30 seconds later, some dude rolled up to Vibeke trying to be all smooth and flirty. He was like, "Hi, how's it going?" and then just as Vibeke was about to answer, he sat down IN THE PISS and she started hysterically cackling and pointing at his face. (While Jay and I fell down laughing like 2 feet behind them). The guy got really confused and got up and left in a hurry. Here's the semi-dry stool he cleaned off for us!
Hahahah. And here's Vibeke (feeling a little bit bad immediately afterwards). Hahaha. STEEP!
Friday, May 19th
On Friday night I went out and ran into Jessica! That's all!
Sunday, May 21st
On Sunday night, the gang came over to our apartment to play some Cranium. Siege got a "Sense-o-sketch" question (that's where you have to draw with your eyes closed) and made the mistake of blindfolding himself with his own hat! An action that left him vulnerable to...
...all sorts of indignities from our opposing team. Here's me showing off my sweet ass (for the second time in the same entry! That's gotta be a new record!).
Katie threw in some titties! And Grant swooped in at the last minute...
..for the piece d'resistance braining! It looks like his nuts are almost touching Siege's hat! Nice!
Team: Grianie (Grant, Brian and Katie) ending up winning! Woooooo!
Friday, May 26th
On Friday night, I stopped by Meredith's apartment on my way to the Annex and found her and her friend comparing tongue lengths...
...and other type of "girl party" stuff!
I went next door to the Annex and ran into Mandy right off the bat!
A band from New Jersey was setting their gear up on the stage, so we decided to stick around and check out their first song (because they had a bunch of cute girls standing around waiting to see them...so how bad could they be, right?).
Verdict? Not good at all! (Check out Lawrence's face! Haha). We decided to retreat to the basement and continue our night band-free.
Later that night, Meredith and her friend even came over and joined us!
Monday, May 29th
On Monday morning, Meredith and I got up bright and early and took the F train over to West 4th Street station.
Warm weather? The subway? West 4th Street? There can only be one explanation:
Taking the A-train to Far Rockaway for...
...the first beach day of the year! Woooo!
Here's the view from the subway as it's going over the bridge out to...
...Far Rockaway Island!
The beach ended up being a little bit chilly (and the water was downright un-swimmable!) so we only ended up spending a little over two hours before heading back. Here we are on the subway platform happy...
...and slightly sun-kissed!
Later that afternoon, Mer and I went to Tompkins Square to relax in the grass and read. We looked up from our books and saw two totally hot chicks crossing the park with tiny dogs. We were like "Whoa, check out those two."
As "those two" got closer, we realized it was Ellen and Leigh and that we'd just been busted checking out our own friends! Ellen was there with Piper...
...and Leigh (seen here doing her best Coldstare! Icy!) was there with her brand new dappled daschund puppy Edie! Look at her teeny, tiny little weiner body! Go ahead: Awwwwwww!
Edie (the tiny little puppy) kept bullying Piper. She'd lay in the grass and feign indifference, but then as soon as Piper wandered into "striking range"...
...SHA-POW! She'd leap into action and attack! Eventually, Piper was preemptively laying down and being like "Fuck it. You win. I'm on the ground already so you don't have to knock me over, ok?"
All of the puppy-bullying tired Piper out right-quick and a few minutes later...
...she came over to rest her little chinny-chin on my leg before ultimately...
...conking the fuck out on the grass.
Piper the beleaguered pooch eventually found safe-haven in mom's lap.
Piper Incognito.
