sarah's bday bash:
part one

february 7, 2004

Yo, straight up, Sarah Lewitinn is one of my bestest friends in the whole wide world. So when the venue she'd been planning on having her birthday party at fell through, I was only too honored to offer forth my apartment for the festivities. What follows is a two-part recap of what was, hands down, the most fun I've ever had a party in NYC (and it wasn't even really my party so yes, I'm totally allowed to say that).

First off, here's the poster for the movie Trainspotting. Beyond Sarah, the party was also to celebrate...

...the birthdays of Dan Burn and Laura Young! Here's the invite they whipped up for their combined party.

On Saturday, the morning before the party, I met up with Sarah, Nikki, Eva, and Courtney for brunch at Clinton Street Bakery. Sarah and Nikki were both having trouble deciding between dishes so they both ended up ordering two breakfast entrees EACH! That's right, EACH!

Keep in mind, these aren't no skimpy portions either. Here's Sarah with her Heuvos Rancheros AND her buttermilk biscuit egg sandwich (with homefries).

And here's Nikki with her fresh fruit pancakes with apple syrup AND her eggs Benedict.

Here's my pulling my sneaky "these girls are INSANE!" face.

And here's me with posing for the "I'm a big pussy who can only eat one breakfast" picture. Now before you go and start complaining that Nikki and Sarah were being wasteful because there's no way any normal human could eat that much...

|
...I'll have you know that they both completely scraped their plates fucking clean! What's funnier than Sarah pulling the totally laid back "thumbs up for a job well done" face?

Here's me back at Sarah's apt posing with Courtney, my blue velour shirted soulmate.

Okay, fast forward to later that night at my apt...

Laura and Sarah showed got to my apartment a little before 11pm, helped set up and sound-checked our awesome karaoke stage. (Special thanks to Mike Jurin who saved the karaokeness of the party by generously lending his speakers at the very last moment!)

Lawrence Lewitinn, brother of Sarah, seller of apartments and King of Little Teapots short and stout.

Right around midnight, people started showing up!

Lorelei, Em and Sarah.

Me and Emilie.

Lawrence warming up the crowd.

Soon-to-be-marrieds, Jamie and Nikki! (Actually, I'm writing this six months later and they're totally already married. Congrats, guys!)

Jefferey Tonnesen in the ha-higgity.

Hal and Jason from the Morning After.

Jamie with karaoke co-host extraordinairre, Buddy.

Dan and Rob did a nice job rounding up a crowd of karaoke spectators...

...and my apt was filling up nicely...

...so I decided to pull "hey, this is my apartment" rank and cut the karaoke line! Hah!

Lawrence on the mic.

Emilie taking a picture of me taking a picture of her.

This is my neighbor Mike! He lives in the loft above ours. He spend the night behind our kitchen counter bartending and collecting tips with my roommate Victoria.

Me and Vic.

Sarah, a freaky-looking Scott Cohen, and Karen +1.

Tookie in the house! (Hey, remember when we went up to NH? No, well then how about this time?)

Mark Ghuneim, Tom Donahue and Scott.

Nikki, Courtney and Lizzie (Holy babe-o-rama!)

Danielle and Vanessa (who I met that night because they read this site! Hi girls! Sorry it took me, um, six months and eleven days to getting around to posting these photos! Doh.)

Dennis Crowley, founder of Dodgeball (and in my estimation) the very first person to have an episodic photo diary on the web, showed up to kick a little Wanted (Dead of Alive) the crowd's way.

Along with Dennis' crew came superstar Mike Tully, who dropped some hip hop flava on the crowd before chugging his forty of brass monkey (that's malt liquor and orange juice) and heading off to see the Dizzy Rascal show.

Seth Miller, not wanting to miss a night of karaoke history in the making, came down from Boston!

Frank, Adam's eye, and Colin.

The crowd clearly starting to get karaoke fever.

Sarah and Greg (smooching again!), Danielle, Vanessa and Raphael.

'Nuff said.

Frank, Seth, Vanessa and Danielle.

Thowing cans of PBR into the crowd.

First smooching then ear-nuzzlin?? Emilie and Mona look on.

So I go to my bedroom to check on things and who do I find in there? Jenny Penny and the random dude that got Vin, Amber and I stoned out of our tiny minds that one random night at Lit! Ha!

Meanwhile, back out on stage, Laura had teamed up with Rob Sheffield for a superstar duet of...

TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART!

This fuggin guy, always on tha celly.

I don't know what I'm doing. I'm always in the dark. We're living in a powder keg.

And giving off sparks.

Dens getting a smooch?

Judging by my red-from-screaming face, I'm guessing this is me singing "18 and Life"

Crowd response.

Buddy and Sid.

Seth stopping the show with some Stevie.

Me, Colin and Frank.

Raphael busted playing dancefloor grab-ass!

Me caught trying to smooch my high-school sweetheart. (Who it should be noted later committed the worst party foul you can commit by sleeping over and not putting out! WTF?)

It's the Crowley Crizzew: Dens, Randy, Josh and Krucoff with assorted biddies.

Jessica and some kid I used to be good friends with (until he started fingerbanging our he friend's girlfriends in sketchy bar bathrooms). These days, I hardly see him. So it was pretty rad of him to come to the party.

Frank Picarazzi pleasing the crowd.

Matt (Sid), Mandy, Seth and me.

Emma (pulling her patented "drunk face") me and the Fatty in the background.

Nina, Peter, Caleb and Pete.

The Living Things.

Vin and Amber.

Marco and a lady friend.

Laura and Vic repping Chinese pride!   NEXT: on to part 2.
