grant & fatty move!
may 3, 2003
Fatty and Grant both got new apartments! Fatty was moving out of the apt he'd been sharing with Jimmy and Viola because he bought a rad studio on St. Mark's & 1st. Grant (who's basically been a homeless wanderer for the last six months), got our friend Mark Bibbin's great apt over on 14th and C.
Moving Day! The crew headed uptown to Fatty's apartment to help him move out (because good friends help always help their friends move). After all the heavy lifting was done, Frank serenaded us on the yuke'.

Check this crazy shit out - we're following behind David (who's driving the Ryder truck) in Frank's car and at a traffic light we look over at the covered pick-up truck stopped next to us and we see a partially covered human skeleton in the back. We were like "What the fuck?" There was a scrap of cloth partially pulled over the skull which Frank figured that was there "To hide the fuck hole." (Did anyone else get that? Or does the fact that we immediately recognized a "skull fucking" joke mean that we're all a bit "not right?")
Frank, Colin helping Dave schlepp schtuff up into his fancy new digs on the corner of 1st & St. Marks (that he bought. Player's got bank, yo).
Grant "unloads" Fatty's bike off the truck (nearly killing himself in the process).

Okay - these next pics are from a bunch of different days. This was taken when I went over to help Grant paint his new apartment that he got from our friend Mark Bibbins.
Yo, ever paint a room red? It's ridiculous - this is after two coats.

So in the weeks prior to Grant moving in, we all to endure endless hours of his "plans for the aparment." (He even tricked me into going to Sherman Williams with him so he could get "paint samples." Who does that?) Anyway, he kept going on and on about this "wide stripe, skinny stripe" painting motif that he had in mind. I was totally skeptical (and I also had no idea what he was talking about).
Painting makes you thirsty - so I went into Grant's fridge to look for something to drink to discover that the only thing he had was this box of "Boing!" (Boing! is a fake mango drink that makes you want to say its name as you jump around with the box).

See? You just can't help yourself. Damn, that's some good Boing!
Okay, so fast-forward two weeks - Grant's been staying home most nights to work on his place and he finally invited Emma, Fatty and me over for "the unveiling."
Fatty, being pretty much the nicest, most thoughtful person you're likely to ever meet, brought a housewarming cake from the bakery around the corner from his place.
So remember how I had no idea what he meant be the "wide stripe/skinny stripe" painting concept? Well turns out Grant not only had a pretty rad idea, he also managed to pull it off really well.

See? Neat, right?
He even painted the bottom of his sink to match!
Blue stripes in the bedroom.
And he even managed to get the red paint in the living room one solid color!
Scroll back up and look at the earlier pics - you can barely recognize this as the same room!
Grant's building is really old - so get this, the bathtub and shower are in the kitchen and the toilet is out in the hall (this pic was taken from his apartment doorway and it's the door there on the right).
Oragne and white in the bathroom.
An artsy pic of Emma on the fancy couch in the living room.
